Jaboticaba is an evergreen shrub with slow growth. The bark is light gray and peels off in thin layers, leaving bright patterns after shedding. Leaves are opposite, with short petioles and pubescence. The leaves are leathery, dark green and glossy, lanceolate or elliptical.
