Grape Rain-shelter Cultivation Techniques

Today, the editor will introduce some small experiences in grape rain-shelter cultivation techniques, and then let's get to know more together.

Grape Rain-shelter Cultivation Techniques

Grapes are a very common fruit in our daily life. Currently, China has a large area of grape cultivation. There are also various cultivation methods for grape planting. Rain-shelter cultivation is one of them. Greenhouse cultivation can effectively reduce the incidence of diseases and pests, improving the benefits of grape cultivation. So, how should grapes be protected from rain? Let's take a look at the grape cultivation techniques brought to you by the editor!

Framework Preparation

There are various forms of grape canopies. The most commonly used is hedge planting. First, a crossbar about 150 cm long should be fixed at the top of the grape trellis. The material of the crossbar is not limited, but it is best to use steel because steel has the best durability. Then, a pole about 40 cm high should be erected in the middle of the crossbar. After that, arch-shaped frames are set up at both ends of the crossbar and fixed with the framework poles of the fence. Then, adjacent arches are connected with metal wire to form a wire frame. Another layer of plastic film is used for rain protection.

Selection of Mulching Film

The mulching time for rain-shelter cultivation should be carried out when the temperature is high in summer. Therefore, the selection of mulching film is very important, it should be a PVC film that is resistant to sunlight and not prone to cracking or aging, ensuring that the film has strong heat resistance and good breathability. Generally, the life span of the film can reach about two years. To ensure the normal growth and development of new grape shoots, the rainproof film should maintain a distance of about 25 cm between the branches and leaves. Then, the width of the film is determined according to the width of the arch surface. To ensure that the greenhouse is strong enough, the film should be fixed with a film press line or nylon rope after covering.

Film Covering Time

In greenhouse planting, if the planting area is small, or it is a family planting, the film should be covered with mulch before the rain. When the weather is clear, the film can be taken down. For larger planting scales, the film should be covered before the rainy season based on local climate changes and weather conditions. In southern regions, the grape flowering period often encounters rainy weather. Therefore, attention should be paid to film covering before the grapes bloom, and the film should be uncovered after the grapes are fully matured and harvested.

Daily Management

In rain-shelter cultivation, since the grape roots have less opportunity to receive natural moisture, the phenomenon of soil drought is prone to occur. When the soil is too dry, attention should be paid to timely watering, especially during the growth of young fruits, sufficient water must be ensured. After covering, the microclimate of the canopy will change, making it prone to diseases and pests. Therefore, attention should be paid to summer pruning to prevent diseases and pests. Then, when the temperature exceeds 33℃, the film should be taken down for cooling.
