The variety of succulents determines the method of cultivation. "Different Cultivation Methods for Different Succulent Varieties"

The variety of succulent plants determines the cultivation method.

Do you understand these? The content about succulent plants, the variety of succulent plants determines the cultivation method. Next, the editor will introduce to everyone.

The cultivation of cactus succulents, we often say granular planting materials, water control, sunlight, humidity, and fertilizer, and that's about it. This is just a general overview, but it's already very complicated, especially sunlight and temperature and humidity, which really vary from place to place and from person to person. However, each variety is different. For example, the 'Pingwan' needs to be exposed to strong sunlight (under healthy conditions), if you expose it to strong sunlight, it may not necessarily die, but it will not grow well, at least not up to our aesthetic standards.

To cultivate cactus succulents well, you need to create an environment it is familiar with. Look at the weeds at your door, they never die, but the orchids bought from the flower market either hang or don't bloom. Why? It's because the weeds have been growing around your home for hundreds of thousands of years and are very adaptable to the local climate. But orchids, which are everywhere on the mountains of Guizhou, are not found in the wild near your home because the climate here is not suitable for orchids. To grow orchids well, you need to create an environment that orchids are familiar with and like. The same goes for cactus succulents. Therefore, it is important to think more, infer more, and practice more, consider the plant's habits, and decide on the cultivation method based on your own environment. It is unique and only suitable for you.

Let me give an example of how I decide on the cultivation method.

First, let me talk about my environment: I live in the Yangtze River Delta region, on the 9th floor, with two outdoor flower shelves facing south and a south-facing inner balcony with a wall on the east side. In winter, sunlight can shine into the room, and the inner balcony is full of sunshine. In summer, the inner balcony has almost no direct sunlight, while the outdoor flower shelves can see direct sunlight around 11 am and last until 5 pm, which means the sunlight is strongest at noon and then the deadly west sun exposure. At the beginning, in summer, I left them outside to be exposed to strong sunlight, and in winter, I brought them into the inner balcony. Some plants grew well, and some were not bad, but I always felt that they were a bit lacking and could have grown better.

Take the裸萼's丽蛇 (one of my favorites) for example. The information we find on some professional websites is: native to Brazil, Bolivia, and Uruguay, growing under low shrubs in open fields, often in large patches.

OK, from this information, we can infer some things. Growing under low shrubs indicates it doesn't need strong direct sunlight, and it might even not grow well under direct sunlight; the climate and temperature in South America are roughly clear, with high temperature and humidity (this is a subjective conjecture); growing in open fields rather than on cliffs like flower cages indicates that its root system is relatively strong because the flower cage grows on a stony mountain and has shallow roots. And the fact that it grows in large patches in its native habitat indicates that it is a dominant species, with fast growth and strong reproductive ability.

So, I took the 'Lisher' out of the shallow purple clay pot and planted it in a deeper black plastic pot, no longer exposing it to direct sunlight outside, but raising it in the inner balcony, which doesn't have obvious direct sunlight but is very bright. I pasted newspaper on the west glass, which was processed, folded the newspaper, cut out some small holes, and after opening it, the newspaper had a sieve-like dense pattern of holes, which reduced the intensity of the west sun exposure and partially simulated the effect of shrubs.

Temperature and humidity are easy to manage. The balcony is used for drying clothes, so it has high humidity, and by keeping the door closed when entering and leaving the balcony, it ensures that the temperature and humidity do not dissipate.

Let's talk about fertilizer. Green plants seem to like monopotassium phosphate, so for the greener balls, I always spray a little bit of low-concentration monopotassium phosphate. I don't know if it's right, but at least it looks good now.

For the 'Tianping', which is also a裸萼, its native habitat is the flat land at high altitude in South America. It looks like the UV light is definitely strong at high altitudes, and the daylight hours are long, so for 'Tianping', I think it needs long daylight and I put it outside on the flower shelf to be exposed to strong sunlight. It also seems to be doing well now.
