The ash tree is a deciduous tree with an oval crown and brownish-yellow bark. The young branches are smooth and hairless. It has odd-pinnate compound leaves, opposite, ovate or ovate-lanceolate. The paniculate inflorescence is lateral or terminal on the current year's branches, large and loose; the elliptical inflorescence is terminal and lateral, drooping. Flowering period is from March to May; fruit matures in October. This species has a proper shape, straight trunk, and lush green leaves, with orange-yellow autumn leaves, making it an excellent street tree and shade tree. The wood is tough, moisture-resistant, and used for making furniture, agricultural implements, plywood, etc.; branches can be woven into baskets; the bark, known as "Qin Pi," is used in traditional Chinese medicine as an antipyretic.
