Rafflesia arnoldii is a species of the Rafflesiaceae family, Dicotyledonous Rosidae order, and Rafflesia genus. It is native to the Malay Archipelago. It is a succulent parasitic herb with a very short main stem, weighing up to 9 kilograms. The flower is gigantic, with a diameter of 50-90 centimeters, bright in color, and has a decomposing smell, attracting insects that feed on decaying flesh for pollination. The inner surface of the flower has small wart-like protuberances. It is dioecious, with the female flower having an inferior ovary with irregular cavities, many ovules, and single-layered ovule coats. The male flower has multi-chambered anthers that dehisce through apical pores. What makes this plant even more unique is that it has no leaves or stems, but instead, it parasitizes on the roots or lower stems of plants from the Tetrastigma genus of the Vitaceae family.
