Control Methods for Chinese Rose Grey Mold Disease
You may not be familiar with the planting content of Chinese roses in the floral clinic, here we will learn about the prevention and control methods of grey mold disease in Chinese roses.
Symptoms of grey mold disease in Chinese roses: It mainly affects flowers, leaves, and young branches. Initially, small water-soaked spots appear on the petals or the tips and edges of the petals turn brown, which quickly spread, wilt, and rot, eventually causing the whole flower to turn brown and wither. Under humid conditions, a greyish-green mold-like substance can be seen, which is the conidiophores and conidia of the pathogen.
Characteristics of grey mold disease in Chinese roses: The disease is caused by a fungus, the pathogen is Botrytis cinerea, and its sexual state is Sclerotinia fuckliana. The pathogen overwinters on diseased residues and spreads by air currents in the spring of the following year, infecting through wounds or weakened organs. The disease is prone to occur during the plum rain season (June to July) and flowering period in the Yangtze River Valley.
Control methods for grey mold disease in Chinese roses:
(1) Horticultural control: Remove diseased flower buds, flowers, and branches; maintain good ventilation and lighting conditions, control temperature and humidity; use non-dripping films for greenhouse coverage.
(2) Chemical control: To prevent the disease, spray 50% carbendazim wettable powder at a concentration of 500 times or 75% chlorothalonil wettable powder at a concentration of 800 times.
After the disease occurs, the following chemicals can be used: 60% carbendazim hydrochloride water-soluble powder at a concentration of 600-1500 times, acrylic acid. Carvacrol at a concentration of 500-800 times, 50% vinclozolin wettable powder or suspension at a concentration of 800-1000 times, 50% procymidone wettable powder at a concentration of 1000-2000 times, 50% fludioxonil wettable powder at a concentration of 1000-1300 times, 50% iprodione wettable powder at a concentration of 1000 times.
65% validamycin wettable powder at a concentration of 1000 times, 50% polyoxin B wettable powder at a concentration of 600-800 times, 50% dimethomorph wettable powder at a concentration of 800 times, 28% pyrimethanil wettable powder at a concentration of 1000 times, 40% pyraclostrobin (pyrimethanil) suspension at a concentration of 1200 times, 25% prochloraz (sterol biosynthesis inhibitor) emulsifiable oil at a concentration of 2000 times. These chemicals should be sprayed every 10-15 days, with a total of 2-3 treatments.
