The cultivation method of grape hyacinth

The web tells you about the planting content of bulbous flowers grape hyacinth, the cultivation method of grape hyacinth, which can certainly help you, let's understand it together!

Since many flower friends are cultivating grape hyacinth for the first time, the administrator (Xiao Wu) has compiled a cultivation method of grape hyacinth (graphic tutorial) for this, explaining from bulb treatment, planting, and daily management step by step with pictures and texts, so that flower friends will no longer worry about not cultivating grape hyacinth.

1. Treatment of grape hyacinth bulbs

The following figure shows the condition of the newly received grape hyacinth. If there is severe mildew, it can be disinfected. If the bulbs are healthy, they can be planted without disinfection.

The disinfection method is the same as that of hyacinth, which is to soak in carbendazim for about 5-10 minutes.

During the soaking process, remove the old roots, pull them down with force, and it's fine to do it however, but some careful flower friends should not cut them like cutting scallion roots, otherwise there will be no rooting points!

About mildew and mildew spots, basically all the bulbs received by flower friends are wrapped in a layer of hard brown skin. The old skin is brown and nutrient-free, which is normal, but the hard spots on the epidermis are not normal. These are mildew spots, the后遗症 of erosion by mold.

My method is to directly remove the old skin. As shown in the figure below, the black-green thing is mold. Some epidermis is visible, and some are hidden under one or two layers of old skin. If it's not serious, just wipe it and wash it clean. If it's serious, then remove two layers of skin, which won't affect flowering.

2. Prepare the soil

My recipe is simple for reference: general cultivation soil + perlite + coconut bran + chicken manure organic fertilizer, no fixed ratio, do whatever makes you happy.

What I need to remind everyone is that the soil should be breathable, and the water retention should not be too strong, especially for friends using large and deep pots, be sure to pay attention to the looseness of the soil.

In addition, grape hyacinth can bloom for many years and is easy to cultivate small bulbs, unlike hyacinth, which is useless after one or two years of planting, so the base fertilizer should be sufficient to supply the bulbs for absorption in the coming year.

3. Planting

I used a very large pot, probably with a diameter of more than 30, and planted 20 of each variety together.

According to the different flowering characteristics of the two varieties, I planted the Qinghua, which has better leaf contraction and relatively compact plants, in the inner circle, and the Heiyan, which has long leaves and is prone to lodging and more spreading flowers, in the outer circle.

4. Covering soil

According to some bulb planting guide maps, grape hyacinth needs to be covered with soil more than 8 centimeters thick. I personally think this depth is not easy to achieve and may also increase the risk of mildew, so I plan to make a discount, and the depth of my covering soil is about 3-4 centimeters. Everyone can refer to the distance from the pot edge to grasp it themselves, and finally water thoroughly and place it in a well-ventilated and sunny place (it can be appropriately shaded in the early stage).

5. Daily management

1) Lighting - this is the most important point, it can be said to be the soul of the daily management of grape hyacinth. If there is no light or insufficient light, you will wait for it to grow into a crazy woman with disheveled hair and show it to you (of course, according to the planting practice of many flower friends, even if there is sufficient light, some grape hyacinths will still be like this ~ ~). The following are photos taken about half a month and 20 days after planting (the variety is Armenian Blue Pot Flower, namely the original species of grape hyacinth, the flower shape is similar to Heiyan).

2) Watering - do not water when it is not dry, and water thoroughly after watering, this is the general principle of watering most plants. In winter, it is best to water at noon or in the afternoon when the temperature is slightly higher, and the water should also be appropriately exposed to the sun to increase the temperature, do not use ice water! The following is a photo taken more than a month after planting (the variety is Armenian Blue Pot Flower).

3) Temperature - grape hyacinth is a kind of bulbous plant that is relatively cold-resistant. It is completely fine outdoors in Jiangsu and Zhejiang regions, and it won't freeze even if it snows. In the northern regions (north to the capital), it won't freeze if planted outdoors, at most the leaf tips will turn yellow, and the flower friends in the Northeast region can decide for themselves! It should be reminded that grape hyacinth belongs to cold-cool bulbous plants, and high temperature is also one of the main reasons for the thin and scattered leaves. The following is a photo of Qinghua (formerly called Lanzhu, now called Qinghua).

The growth rate of Qinghua is much slower than that of Armenian Blue Pot Flower, the plant is very compact, more elegant, but the shortcoming is that each bulb can produce fewer flower spikes (1-2).

4) Fertilization - grape hyacinth is a kind of bulbous variety that can bloom for many years, and it is relatively easy to propagate small bulbs, so top dressing is more important during the planting process. Flower friends can fertilize appropriately according to the actual situation during the planting period. The following is a photo taken nearly 5 months after planting, the time is the end of March (the variety is Armenian Blue Pot Flower).

5) Cutting leaves - many flower friends don't understand it. To put it simply, cutting leaves is to cut the leaves of grape hyacinth. I conducted the first cutting when the flower spike of Armenian Blue Pot Flower could be seen. The reason for cutting the leaves is that the leaves of this variety grow too wildly. Practice has proved that cutting leaves does not affect growth, and it is understood that many flower friends implement cutting leaves. The second cutting was in the early flowering stage. Flower friends can implement it according to the actual situation.

6. Post-management

After the grape hyacinth flowers, the flower friends should cut the flower spikes in time to leave more nutrients for the plant bulbs. Some may produce seeds, but I personally do not recommend everyone to use seeds for propagation, unless you want to play. After cutting the flower spikes, the bulbs and green leaves should be watered, fertilized, and exposed to the sun as usual until they wither and enter dormancy in summer. It is recommended to remove the bulbs and store them in a dry, ventilated, and cool environment (some flower friends have put them in the refrigerator, I have not specifically investigated the effect, and those who dare to try can try it). You can also store them with the pot and soil in the above environment until November of the following year, and plant them again. In some areas, the bulbs may wake up in October, so everyone should look at the situation and plant them when they wake up, or in November.
