Chinese Name: WuchengwanAlias: Turbinicarpus schmiedickeanus v.schwarziiScientific Name: Turbinicarpus schmiedickeanus v.schwarziiFamily and Genus: Cactaceae, Grusonia GenusDistribution: Central and northeastern MexicoCactus (Ball) Wuchengwan Plant Introduction
Wuchengwan plants are spherical, with epidermis ranging from light green to dark green, spirally arranged tubercles, large radishes-like roots, slightly elevated tubercles with 1 to 3 spines, and older tubercles with one spine that curves towards the ball.
The flowering period of Wuchengwan is generally from spring to summer, with white flowers tinged with pink, cross-pollination. The soil mixture for Wuchengwan is relatively simple, with pumice mixed with peat, vermiculite and coal slag added, with proportions at will, focusing on breathability, and the surface covered with pumice stones.
This variety of Wuchengwan is not very resistant to direct sunlight. During the growing period, water only when completely dry, and try to give less water to mature plants, otherwise it is easy to grow tall. Insufficient light can also cause it to grow tall. Usually, when the soil is very dry, water is given, and it is basically watered thoroughly. In summer, which is the growing season, the plants need slight shading and ventilation. From July to September, during the high-temperature period, it is semi-shaded and ventilated, and from September to December, water is given when completely dry.
During the entire cold winter, when the temperature is below 2 degrees, almost no water is given. At this time, the plant enters a dormant period, and less water can prevent frostbite and root rot in low temperatures. In dry soil conditions, Wuchengwan is relatively cold-resistant. In a greenhouse with a temperature of minus 4 degrees, Wuchengwan does not show any changes, this temperature is measured inside the greenhouse. Generally, a pot of water is placed in the greenhouse, and if the water freezes, it needs to be heated. As long as it is not outdoors, Wuchengwan can withstand such temperatures.
Watering during the growing period is done only when the soil is completely dry, never pouring water from above. Poor ventilation can easily cause rot. Watering in spring must be gradual, paying attention to weather changes. Wuchengwan is relatively easy to care for. Propagation is mainly by seed, with some grafting, but seed growth is very slow and requires patience.
