How to treat the rotten trunk of a fortune tree
As a popular indoor leaf-viewing plant, the problem of trunk rot of Fortune Tree often leaves growers helpless. When abnormal conditions such as soft rot, glue flow or color change are found in the trunk, timely taking scientific treatment measures is the key to saving the plant. This article will teach you hands-on how to resolve this green plant crisis through systematic treatment plans. 1. Accurately remove decaying tissue 1.1 Prepare surgical tools with sharp gardening knives or surgical blades and disinfect them with alcohol cotton pads in advance. It is recommended to wear gardening gloves to avoid allergies caused by juices coming into contact with the skin. 1.2 The cutting operation points are to make a circumferential cut 2cm extension along the decaying part to ensure complete removal of browning tissue. If blackening of the pulp core is found, the main shaft needs to be cut longitudinally to check the internal lesion, and stepped segmented resection is performed if necessary. 2. Deep disinfection and protective treatment 2.1 Reagent selection criteria recommend the alternating use of hydrogen peroxide (3% concentration) and carbendazim (1:800). The former can generate oxygen bubbles to physically eliminate bacteria, while the latter forms a long-term protective film. In special cases, streptomycin can be used in conjunction with the prevention and control of bacterial rot. 2.2 Disinfection Operation Specifications During immersion and disinfection, the ambient temperature should be maintained at 25-28℃, and the duration should be controlled within 40 minutes. After treatment, place it in a cool and ventilated place to dry for 12 hours until obvious callus is formed on the incision. 3. Scientifically promote root regeneration management 3.1 Optimization of substrate ratio Use a mixed substrate of perlite: vermiculite: pine scale =3:2:1, and add 5% charcoal particles to enhance antibacterial properties. The substrate needs to be sterilized by high temperature steam to prevent secondary infection. 3.2 The rooting induction technology uses ABT rooting powder (1000ppm) and seaweed essence solution to soak the base to create a temperature difference between day and night (28℃ during the day/22℃ at night), maintain 80% air humidity, and see new root spots for 7-10 days. 4. Avoid direct sunlight for the first 3 weeks after replanting key control points during the maintenance period, and use scattered light for maintenance. Implement the "alternate dry and wet" watering method, and wait until the substrate is completely dry before pouring water. Calcium and magnesium fertilizer should be supplemented once a month to enhance cell wall strength.
Through the above-mentioned four-step systematic treatment and later scientific maintenance, about 85% of the sick plants can recover within 2-3 months. Prevention is better than treatment. In daily management, special attention should be paid to controlling the amount of watering, maintaining ventilation in the environment, and regularly checking the status of stems, so that the fortune tree can last forever glow with green vitality.
