Complete Illustrations of the Fortune Tree Propagation Methods
For most women, a comprehensive guide to the illustration of fortune tree propagation methods and the simplest cutting methods for green plants and flowers will surely be of help. Let's learn about it together!
The fortune tree symbolizes attracting wealth and a continuous flow of money. Its beautiful meaning is loved by many gardening enthusiasts. Do you know how fortune trees are propagated? Today, Dougen will introduce the common propagation methods of fortune trees to everyone.
There are generally four methods of fortune tree propagation: seeding, cutting, grafting, and tissue culture. I will introduce each one below.
One, Seeding Propagation
Sowing Time: The best time to sow fortune tree seeds is in spring when the temperature is above 20°C, which is more suitable for seed germination.
Seed Selection: Fresh and plump seeds should be chosen for the fortune tree. You can buy the fruit of the fortune tree and then extract the seeds for sowing.
Germination Promotion: After removing the seeds from the fruit, place the seeds on moist paper towels or cotton and put them in a warm place to promote germination. When the seeds absorb water, swell, and crack open to reveal the sprouts, they can be planted.
Soil Preparation: Fortune trees grow well in loose, well-ventilated soil. You can mix garden soil, humus, and perlite or directly purchase soil specialized for fortune trees.
Planting Method: Place the germinated seeds in the prepared soil, cover them with soil, but not too thick, just a layer of 1-2 cm. Water thoroughly after sowing and place it in a shaded, well-ventilated area. Regularly spray water to maintain sufficient humidity and wait for germination. Generally, it can germinate in 5-7 days.
Two, Cutting Propagation
Cutting Time: The best time for cutting fortune trees is in spring when the temperature is suitable.
Soil Preparation: The same as seeding, choose loose, well-ventilated soil. You can mix garden soil, humus, and perlite or directly purchase soil specialized for fortune trees.
Choosing Branches: Use healthy branches from the current year, avoiding newly grown ones. The branches should be about 10-20 cm long. Use a disinfected pair of scissors to cut the healthy branches. Make a clean diagonal cut at the bottom of the branch, remove excess leaves, leaving only two to three at the top. Too many leaves can consume unnecessary salts and prevent excessive water evaporation during root growth. Apply some rooting powder to the cut end of the branch or soak it in a rooting powder solution for an hour.
Performing Cuttings: Insert the treated branches into the prepared soil, being careful not to damage the wounds, as this can easily affect the survival rate. Place it in a shaded, well-ventilated area, regularly spray water to maintain sufficient humidity, and wait for germination. Generally, it can germinate in about 20 days.
Three, Grafting Propagation
Normally, it takes about 8 years for fortune trees to bloom and bear fruit, which is quite a long time. If you can't wait, you can choose to propagate by grafting.
Stock and Scion: Select healthy branches and leaves of the fortune tree, leaving 1-2 buds, and make a diagonal cut at the bottom (on both sides). Then, cut the stock 40 cm from the top and make a longitudinal cut on the face of the cut. As shown in the diagram below:
Insert the scion into the cut of the stock, tie it tightly with a film strip, and invert a film bag over it, similar to grafting other trees. This is done to prevent the joint from getting wet in the rain. After about a month, new buds will grow, and the bag can be removed. Of course, if kept indoors, there is no need for a bag.
Four, Tissue Culture Propagation
Propagating through tissue culture requires thorough cleaning and disinfection in the early stages, washing the seed surface with distilled water multiple times to remove dust, then soaking in 70% alcohol for disinfection, followed by rinsing with sterile water two to three times. Finally, place the treated seeds in a sterile culture dish for culture.
At 7-10°C, fortune tree seeds will germinate, at 15-20°C they will be induced to form callus, and at about 30°C the callus will differentiate into clusters of buds. Then, plant the clusters of buds in the culture medium for subculture, and finally, plant the seedlings in the rooting medium, where they can grow into small plants at 7-10°C and then be transplanted.
In general, the fortune tree has a very strong vitality, and all four propagation methods are easy to survive. However, in terms of convenience and survival rate, cutting is the best. You can choose the method based on your actual situation. That's all for the propagation methods of the fortune tree. I hope it can be helpful to everyone. If you have any questions, you can leave a message for Dougen, and I will reply as soon as possible.
