Common Varieties of Jasmine
The editor explains the常识 of flower cultivation, the knowledge topic of jasmine, the common varieties of jasmine, and the specific content is as follows:
There are about 60 varieties of jasmine in our country, which can be mainly divided into:
Single-petal Jasmine
"Twisting vine", which is called single-petal jasmine online, belongs to the same genus but different species.
The plant is relatively short, 70-90 cm tall, with thin stems and branches, in a vine shape, hence the name "vine jasmine". The leaves are elliptical, thin in texture, slightly pointed at the tip, entire, 5-9 cm long, and 3.5-5.5 cm wide. The corolla is single-layered, with few petals, 7-11 pieces, each about 1.3 cm long and 1 cm wide, elliptical, white, slightly wrinkled on the surface, slightly pointed at the tip, also known as pointed jasmine. Single-petal jasmine has a longer corolla tube, about 1.5 cm, with 2 stamens, as long as the pistil. The inflorescence is scattered, terminal or axillary, each inflorescence bearing 3-12 flowers, up to more than 30. The buds are slightly pointed and small, light. The single-petal jasmine in our country, after years of selection and breeding in various regions, has formed many local good strains, with high yield and good quality, such as Changle strain, Fuzhou strain, Jinhua strain, and (T-W) strain. Among them, (T-W) jasmine is relatively refreshing, fresh, and pure. The buds of single-petal jasmine open early, usually between 6-7 pm in the summer, with a weight of about 22-25 grams per 100 flowers, lighter than double-petal jasmine. The jasmine tea made from single-petal jasmine has a strong aroma and fresh taste, which is not achieved by double-petal jasmine. Single-petal jasmine is drought-resistant and suitable for planting on the foothills and hillsides, but the flower yield is less than that of double-petal jasmine, with a yield of 150-200 kg per 0.067 hectare, not exceeding 400 kg, and it is not cold-resistant, not flood-resistant, and has weak resistance to diseases and pests.
Double-petal Jasmine
Double-petal jasmine is the main cultivated variety in China. The plant is 1-1.5 meters tall, an upright shrub with many branches, thick and hard stems, and gray-brown wrinkles on the stem base epidermis. The young stems are green, the strong branches have edges and short villi. The leaves are opposite, broad-ovate, entire, reticulate-veined, dark green in color, thick and glossy in texture. The cymose inflorescence is terminal or axillary, each inflorescence bearing 3-17 flower buds, up to more than 30. The buds are ovate, with a flat or slightly pointed top, also known as flat-top jasmine.
Double-petal jasmine usually has better quality with pointed ends, the flowers are plumper than single-petal jasmine, and the water content is slightly lower. The corolla tube is slightly shorter than that of single-petal jasmine, about 1 cm long. There are more corolla lobes (petals), 13-18 pieces, arranged in two layers at the base in an imbricate pattern, 4-8 pieces in the inner layer, and 7-10 pieces in the outer layer. The petals are about 1.1 cm long and 1 cm wide. There are 2 stamens and 1 pistil. The flowers are white and pure, with obvious waxiness, the fragrance is strong and slow to release. The buds open about 2 hours later than single-petal jasmine, usually around 8-9 pm in the summer, the natural fragrance can last for more than ten hours. The weight of 100 flowers is about 23 grams in spring, about 30 grams in summer, and about 26 grams in autumn. The tea made from double-petal jasmine has a rich and strong fragrance, although it is not as fresh and pure as the tea made from single-petal jasmine, but the branches of double-petal jasmine are tough, with strong resistance to adversity, more cold-resistant and humid-resistant, easy to cultivate, and high yield per unit area. The main variety planted in various parts of our country is double-petal jasmine. In Heng County, Guangxi, it can be planted and harvested in the same year, with a fresh flower yield of 150-200 kg per 0.067 hectare, about 500 kg per 0.067 hectare for 3-year-old plants, and generally 800-1000 kg per 0.067 hectare for more than 5 years, with the highest yield reaching more than 1500 kg.
Triple-petal Jasmine
Triple-petal jasmine has obvious warty protuberances on the branches. The leaves are dark green, the buds are tightly bound, round and short, with a slightly sunken top. The corolla lobes (petals) are small and thick, and there are many, usually 16-21 pieces, arranged in 3-4 layers at the base in an imbricate pattern, with distinct layers when open. There are 2-3 stamens. The buds of triple-petal jasmine mostly open between 7-8 pm, usually 1-2 layers first, and the rest the next day. Some may wither without opening. The flowering time of triple-petal jasmine is long, the fragrance is light, the yield is low, and it is not ideal for making scented tea. However, it has strong drought resistance and grows robustly on dry slopes. If it is crossed with good single or triple-petal jasmine varieties (or grafted), it is likely to obtain new varieties of jasmine with strong resistance, good quality, and high yield (new jasmine).
The above explanation about the common varieties of jasmine is hoped to bring a little help to your life!
