Du Ru is a perennial erect or ascending herb, 50-90 cm tall, with slender horizontal rhizomes. Leaves often gather at the top of the stem, leaves are dark green, rough on the surface, and finely hairy on the back; the terminal paniculate inflorescence is often composed of verticillate corymbs, with sparse intervals between wheels, long peduncles with white fine hairs. The fruit is spherical, turning dark blue when mature. Flowering period is from June to July, fruiting period is from August to October. Medicinally, it can regulate qi to relieve pain and disperse wind to reduce swelling; the flower language is trust and reliance.
