Sea buckthorn is a shrub or tree, 3-10 (15) meters tall. The bark is chestnut-brown to reddish-brown, glossy, the trunk is often curved, the branches are dense, with thorns, and the young branches, leaves, flowers, and fruits are covered with silver-white scales and stellate hairs. The flowers are small, with silver-white flower buds, and when open, the petals inside are yellow, fragrant, usually growing in the leaf axils of young branches; the fruits are oblong-elliptical, the flesh is powdery, the fruit skin is silver-white in the early stage, and after the scales fall off, it becomes yellowish-brown or reddish-brown. The flower language is reunion, prosperity of wealth. Concentrated substances of gum and tannin obtained from the fruit have anti-inflammatory effects.
