How to care for succulents

The editor answers the relevant experience of succulents for everyone, how to care for succulents, next, let's get to know together.

Compared to big families, I do raise very few, just picking some common goods, and many expensive goods I think the price is far beyond their actual value, the price is too high by the flower dealer, and it's not necessary to follow the trend, so the succulents I bought didn't cost much money, and these plants also satisfied my desire to raise succulents, with a great effect of exploding pots.

Let me share some thoughts on raising meat:

1. Beginners choose common goods and then upgrade after getting started

The popularity of succulents doesn't need much explanation from me. If you raise meat on a whim, following the trend for fun, not genuinely liking the plants, then I suggest you better not get involved. Some new meat friends buy some extremely expensive succulents when they start raising them, which is a waste of money, not to mention many of them start to rot, overwater, overfertilize, stretch, lack of light... and become unrecoverable in a short time. I think it's a bit like killing, it's better to leave these flowers for those who need them or directly for the merchants (merchants will never let their flowers die), which is more in line with the joy plants bring to people. Therefore, I suggest beginners get some cheap common goods.

2. Fertilization and watering

I have raised many grass flowers before raising meat, so I have accumulated some experience in planting plants. However, many meat friends have never planted any plants before. Here are some suggestions: always remember a few words when planting plants - "Better dry than wet, apply thin fertilizer frequently," which refers to the key points of watering and fertilizing. Watering should be less rather than more, for example, in humid and hot summers and cold winters, excessive watering can cause the plant to suffocate or freeze. Under normal conditions, it is usually better to water in the morning or evening, avoiding the high temperatures at noon. The water should be normal temperature tap water or rainwater, and washing rice water is also a good choice. Watering must be thorough, not just on the surface of the potting soil, otherwise, the soil will harden over time, become airtight, and cause root rot. If your pot is larger, you can wait longer between thorough waterings. For meat, if your pot is small, you should water more frequently, every three to five days is fine, but you can't become a watering maniac. Plants can survive by absorbing moisture from the air, so as long as it's not too long without watering (like half a year, a year), it's usually fine. I've also seen many old people in Yunnan who only rely on rainwater and still grow old stakes with character.

About fertilizing, my experience is to apply thin fertilizer frequently, of course, this前提 is that your soil is relatively fertile. Add some base fertilizer when planting, and then you can add some water-soluble fertilizer every month or so, but remember not to apply too much fertilizer. I've seen my colleagues burn several good pine tree盆景 to death. Once over-fertilized, it's hard to save. Of course, I'm quite lazy, so I added some base fertilizer when potting and didn't fertilize after that.

3. Sunlight and temperature

I think the reason my succulents can explode in pots is that they get enough sunlight and there is a big temperature difference. I always keep them outdoors to grow, because I'm in Yunnan, where the UV is strong and the temperature difference is large, like today's temperature difference is about 10 degrees, and in spring it can reach 20 degrees. I see many cities have a temperature difference of 5 degrees or less, which I think is also very favorable for succulents. Of course, this can't be forced. If you're in a city with less UV, like Chengdu, just let the succulents enjoy the sun, and they will still grow well, just maybe not as colorful. If the temperature is too high, some succulents need to hibernate. I see many flower friends on the forum whose succulents have started to rot. I suggest moving the succulents to a well-ventilated and shaded place, or indoors with air conditioning, getting some scattered light, let them stretch, and as long as the green mountains remain, there's no need to worry about having no firewood to burn. Let the succulents get through the tough summer, and they will be beautiful in autumn.

4. Pest control and bird prevention

Compared to many herbaceous plants, meat is relatively pest-free, but I didn't expect my meat to be infested with pests in May. Fortunately, I found it early and killed it manually. The next day, I sprayed some bio-soap and haven't had any problems since then. As long as you pay attention and eliminate potential hazards in time, there's no problem, unlike planting roses and monthly roses, worrying about black stems and powdery mildew. As for bird prevention, many flower friends have had the experience of their meat being eaten by birds, because in the city, birds have nothing to eat but meat. But birds are also life, you can't kill them, so some flower friends use toothpick methods, some use netting, and I see the effect is quite good. Myself, I haven't been troubled by birds, probably because the natural environment is slightly better, and the birds don't want to eat meat. Haha.

Well, that's all I can think of for now, hoping to give some advice to新手 flower friends. Of course, I must declare first that this is my personal maintenance experience. The differences in raising meat caused by geographical location, climate conditions, and personal judgment are completely different, so please don't copy and paste. The most important thing is to take care and accumulate experience slowly. Any omissions, objectivity, or typos are welcome to be supplemented by flower friends. July is coming soon, I hope that this July, everyone's meat can pass through healthily. Wishing all lovers of flowers and plants happiness.
