The Sacred King is spherical or oblate. It has 3 to 6 ridges with shallow transverse grooves between the areoles, and the spines vary in length. It enjoys sunlight, with flowers growing on top, the receptacle is attached with large scales but without hair or spines. The flowers are pink or light pink. When flowering, at least half of the plant's spherical body should be exposed to strong sunlight for a day to make it easier for the buds to bloom. Since this genus likes to flower, many breeders hybridize them, and most of the Gymnocalycium in China are hybrid varieties, with few pure breeds. Even in the native region, there are many hybrid varieties, which makes it difficult to distinguish between them due to the high number of flowers and insect pollination.
