Core introduction: This article provides an introduction to the 吹上 Dragon Tongue Agave, its care methods. Keep reading for more information!
The吹上 Dragon Tongue Agave is native to Mexico, with the scientific name Agave striata f. nana. It is a small variety of the Agave genus. The 吹上 requires ample sunlight to enhance its leaf color and make the plant more compact and beautiful. The growth of 吹上 is not too slow, and it should be repotted every 2 to 3 years depending on its growth state, with the pot diameter being 1 to 2 inches larger than the plant diameter to promote growth.
Watering should only be done when the medium is completely dry, and a slow-release fertilizer can be applied once per quarter. Propagation is done using the side bud division method and can be performed throughout the year.
When temperatures exceed 35°C, it is recommended to move the 吹上 Dragon Tongue Agave to bright indirect light and reduce watering. During the entire summer high-temperature period, watering should be minimized. By mid-September, when temperatures drop, watering can be resumed. The 吹上 can still grow normally in outdoor conditions in summer, with not much obvious dormancy. In winter, if the temperature can be maintained above 0°C, watering can continue, but below 0°C, watering should be stopped to prevent frost damage and rot in the core.
Although it is cold in winter, it is not necessary to completely stop watering throughout the season. Some water can be given at the plant's roots at appropriate times, but avoid spraying or giving too much water, as excess moisture in the leaf core can cause rot. Normal watering can be gradually resumed as temperatures rise in spring. The yellow body 吹上 is a very easy-to-care-for variety and tends to form clusters. Apart from needing some shade in summer, it can be exposed to full sun in other seasons. The soil should be well-draining.
