Hellebore is a perennial herb, 15-50 cm tall. The stem is erect, and both the stem and petioles have extended pale yellow rough hair. The leaves are ternate compound leaves, with long petioles on the basal and lower leaves; the leaf blades are broadly ovate, with the upper stem leaves gradually becoming smaller. The inflorescence has sparse flowers; the sepals are light green, boat-shaped, and sparsely pubescent on the outside; the petals are yellow, broadly obovate; the fruit is flat and hairless. The flowering period is from April to June, and the fruiting period is from July to September. The whole plant is used as medicine, with anti-inflammatory, analgesic, antimalarial, and insecticidal effects.
