Plant Knowledge Series: Share with you the experience of making Ficus bonsai, discussing how to promote rooting in Ficus bonsai, let's follow the editor to take a look!

Seeing flower friends discussing how to promote rooting, root shaping, and aerial root promotion in small and medium-sized (indoor type) Ficus bonsai, methods include thorough watering, transplanting outdoors, spraying water on the roots, using nutrient solutions, etc., I have always liked to grow Ficus bonsai and have tried some methods. Here are some experiences for flower friends to discuss:

【Classification】

Common indoor Ficus bonsai are generally called two types: Ginseng Ficus Bonsai and Aerial Root Ficus Bonsai.

This does not mean that there are different varieties of Ficus, but rather different techniques for creating the bonsai landscape.

【Making Method】

Ginseng Ficus Bonsai: Place Ficus seedlings in a light-proof and waterproof small container, fill the soil, place it in a rainproof environment, with sunlight being better, do not water for a long time, wait for the soil to dry out completely, and the Ficus to wither, then浇 abundant water. At this point, the Ficus roots will absorb a lot of water and expand. Repeat this process several times to form a ginseng shape. Dig it out and replant it in a pot.

Aerial Root Ficus Bonsai: Take a strong Ficus seedling, ring the bark at the bottom of a strong branch, causing the water from the roots to be unable to reach the branch, aerial roots will grow above the ringed part of the branch. This process should keep the branch moist. After the aerial roots sprout, adjust the soil and water, comb and guide the growth. When guiding the aerial roots to grow, fill the middle part of the Ficus with stones or rammed earth, allowing the aerial roots to grow downward along the periphery to facilitate shaping. After the basic shape of the aerial roots is formed, raise the roots year by year, repeat several times, and the aerial root Ficus bonsai shape is formed.

【Random Talk】

After introducing the making method of Ficus bonsai, flower friends should easily understand that it is quite difficult to promote secondary root shaping of small and medium-sized Ficus bonsai bought from flower shops (or office-raised).

For example, theoretically, a small ginseng Ficus bonsai priced at a few yuan can also be made into a more expensive medium-sized aerial root Ficus bonsai using the above methods, but due to limited conditions, it is difficult to control moisture and seedling conditions, and ordinary flower friends have limited time, so the chance of success is not very high.

It is better to look for other ways, such as shaping branches and leaves through pruning and binding, matching odd stones and moss for bonsai shaping, or intercropping with other plants, which can also achieve satisfactory results.

Bonsai making requires patience, and it cannot be done in a hurry, or it may backfire.
