Willowherb is a perennial semi-shrub herb. The rhizome is thick and hard, with tufted fibrous roots. The stem is erect, 50-120 cm tall, branched in the upper part, densely covered with white long pubescence and short glandular hairs. The leaves below the stem are opposite, while the upper leaves are alternate, sessile; the leaf blades are oblong to elliptic-lanceolate, both sides are covered with long pubescence, edges have fine锯齿 (serrations), and the base slightly embraces the stem. Flowers are solitary in the leaf axils; the calyx tube is cylindrical, with 4 lanceolate lobes, the outer surface is pubescent; petals are 4, the apex is notched into 2 lobes, light purple-red; stamens are 8, 4 long and 4 short, the stigma is 4-lobed. The capsule fruit is cylindrical. The seeds are oblong-elliptical, with a cluster of white seed fluff at the tip. Propagation by rhizome and seeds. Flowering period is from June to August.
