Taipingwan is the smallest in the Golden Barrel Cactus genus, but it is relatively large compared to other cactus balls. The plant body is mostly gray-green, with 7-13 ridges, brown spines radiating, longer, with ring patterns on the spines, 7 marginal spines, and the central spines are slightly thicker than the marginal spines, pointing downward, and almost the same length as the marginal spines. Taipingwan has funnel-shaped flowers that bloom on top in spring, the flowers are pink, fragrant, and relatively large.
