Twelve rolls of soil
Today's sharing: the planting content of succulent plants, twelve rolls of soil, can certainly bring you help, let's learn about it together!
The fact that the twelve volumes of soil can be considered indicates that the flower friends are paying more attention to the maintenance of the twelve volumes. Everyone has their own set of experiences with the soil for the twelve volumes, and flower friends don't have to stick to one. They can mix the soil according to the soil they have on hand and the characteristics of the soil used for the twelve volumes. Next, let's take a look at what flower friend Shiyi Xiu thinks and shares about the soil problem of the twelve volumes.
For plants, soil is the foundation of life. Most of the twelve volumes we grow are horticultural categories, which have been hybridized and selected for many generations by our predecessors, and have long been separated from the original environment. Therefore, there is no need to discuss what the wild soil is like (even if it is dug from the wild, do you want to let it endure cold and hunger? Isn't it necessary to change to a better living environment?). Here, we talk about what should be paid attention to in the proportion of the cultivation medium for family maintenance.
Soil (cultivation medium) is where the root system of the plant grows, and its importance needs no further discussion. The root system of the twelve volumes is a succulent root, and its primary function is to absorb and transport nutrients (including water, fertilizer absorption, etc.) to provide the energy needed for the growth of the plants on the soil surface; the second is respiration, yes, the root system also needs to breathe; the third is reproduction; and the last is nutrient storage.
After understanding the basic functions of the root system, we can carry out targeted soil mixing activities. The aspects we need to pay attention to are relatively simple and can be summarized as follows:
1. Characteristics of different media
First of all, the root system of the twelve volumes needs to drink water, breathe, and absorb nutrients (it seems the same as us, to drink water, to breathe, to have vegetables when eating). Therefore, the selected cultivation medium should have the following characteristics: moderate water retention, rich in nutrient elements, and breathable.
There is a lot of information about various media on the internet, and I won't elaborate on it here, but I have to mention that not everything on the internet is accurate, and it still needs to be explored and summarized by yourself. Soil mixing is generally done according to one's own maintenance habits. For example, if you like watering a lot and want to water it thoroughly every day, it is recommended not to use water-retaining materials but to choose drainage and breathable materials. Using this kind of thinking to mix soil generally will not go wrong. The key is to remember that after giving them a house and furniture, don't forget to also provide a variety of vegetables. Only having vegetables without meat is a bitter life……
2. The impact of different pot materials on soil mixing
As mentioned above, after the soil is mixed, it is the issue of choosing the material for the pot.
Currently recommended are Wanshang pots and red pottery pots. They may not be good-looking, but the beauty lies in the plant itself, and it is the plant that is observed.
Wanshang pot: Made of plastic (should be plastic, ha), although it is not breathable itself, it is accepted by most twelve players because of its clever and reasonable design. The wide pot mouth is good for ventilation, and the narrow bottom is good for water retention and humidity preservation. The width of the pot mouth allows the soil on the surface to dry quickly, which is beneficial for short-term drying to prevent the growth of bacteria. Although the bottom is narrow, the design also has air vents, allowing the soil at the bottom to dry while the internal soil does not dry too quickly, forming a favorable moisture transfer process, thereby achieving uniform movement of soil internal nutrient resources. Of course, if you water the pot thoroughly every day, it's better to choose a red pottery pot.
Red pottery pot: The savior of watering addicts, extremely breathable, and the soil can dry in the sun after being watered in the summer (outdoor cultivation), and the whole pot of soil can dry in three days. Essential equipment for children who need to water every day, none. The disadvantage is, don't you go on business trips or travel? Even if it doesn't die from lack of water, it can be frustrating to come home and find it all wilted. Therefore, efforts should be made in the selection and proportioning of planting materials. There are many water-retaining materials, right? So, humans are smart.
Here, I also need to mention a type of pot, the purple sand pot. Using this to plant twelve and placing it on a tea table can make it look very stylish. Even if it's just a grass jade plant, people who don't understand might think it's worth several hundred, ha ha ha, a must-have for stylish people, none.
3. Soil selection for different stages of plant growth
Seedling stage: Here we are talking about seeds, after germination, they are very fragile, especially the root system, it's really about to die, as thin as a hair, and as short as a crew cut. But fortunately, they have strong vitality and require a lot of water. Therefore, it is possible to choose materials that retain water better, or to keep them in a humid and well-lit environment, which will be much better. Pay attention to anti-bacterial and sterilization measures. Otherwise, seedling stunting is a minor issue, and direct rotting and letting go is also a common occurrence.
Lazy, just use 1-3MM particles to sow
Seedling stage: True leaves begin to appear but are still very small, with 2CM being the dividing line, preparing for potting. The soil mixing needs during this period are the same as in the seedling stage, but it is no longer suitable to keep them in a humid environment and should gradually adapt to natural light (note, not direct sunlight, as the twelve generally prefer light but not direct light) and air (the wind in nature also has abundant nutrients, including the carbon dioxide we exhale is also a feast). Keep the soil moist but not overly watered, and slowly grow them to 2CM or more before repotting. Happy
Small seedling stage: During this period, you can use 1-3MM particles to plant, and some changes need to be made in the maintenance habits, such as watering and fertilizing, which should lay the foundation for later growth.
Medium to large seedling stage: During this period, I still plant in 1-3MM particle soil (anyway, don't keep changing pots, it harms the root system and slows down plant growth), and more frequent and abundant nutrition should be provided here, similar to a teenager in the growth stage, needing to keep up with nutrition. After the冲刺, it lays the foundation for the final blooming. The rest of the maintenance is the same as in the small seedling stage, which will be discussed in section four.
Sub-adult and adult plants: Generally, 3-6MM particles are sufficient, of course, for some larger varieties, we can choose particles above 6MM, depending on the actual situation.
Summary: Just like humans, different periods require different maintenance environments. Babies don't have teeth, and even if you give them a piece of meat, they can't chew it, so milk is the most suitable. I hope everyone can reasonably consider the soil mixing suitable for different stages of plants. I am quite lazy, and once the plants are in the pot, I don't want to move them much, preferring a one-time and permanent cultivation method, which is much more comfortable. Unless there are unforeseen natural disasters, I will be forced to change pots and soil.
4. Adjusting maintenance habits in different seasons
Spring: A warm and humid season, also a season when bacteria and pests multiply and grow. As the saying goes, all things revive, and this season is also the growing season for twelve. Water, as the carrier of moisture and nutrients, cannot be cut off. Since it is a relatively humid season, the watering habits should be changed compared to autumn and winter. adopt the method of less watering and less water to cope. The corresponding anti-bacterial and anti-pest work should be completed at the beginning of spring.
Summer: A hot season when bacteria and pests are still rampant, but after the anti-bacterial and anti-pest work is done well in spring, only a small amount of work is needed here, and placing some Bayer insect killer on the soil surface will basically eliminate pests. What is worth paying attention to is that summer is basically the dormant period for twelve (in a natural environment) because it's too hot. Even if they grow, it is very slow, and people need to sleep, and so do plants, as they say, resting and gathering strength. Therefore, the demand for water also decreases sharply, which basically eliminates the environment for the growth of bacteria. Of course, less water does not mean no water, as entering deep dormancy can be very painful, and it will waste the next autumn growing season. The watering method is to spray water at night (also cooling) and water thoroughly after the soil is dry. Remember, due to the presence of water-retaining media in the soil, the growth of bacteria at this time can completely destroy a plant, so, get a small fan, strengthen ventilation, and when it's not so humid, the small fan can be removed. (How to know it's not humid? Just stick a toothpick in the soil)
Autumn: A beautiful growing season with clear skies and a large temperature difference between day and night. It's not just plants, even people feel great, don't they. Begin to water and fertilize with confidence.
Winter: A cold and dry season (in the south, it's a cold and humid season), and northern friends basically keep them indoors, or they'll freeze. The watering can be adjusted according to the indoor humidity and air circulation. If it's warm indoors, they won't go dormant. Southern friends, you're happy, winter is still a growing season (in the Lingnan region) due to the relatively high humidity, so the watering should be more restrained compared to autumn. During this season, less water is needed, and things should be kept humid!
PS: The purpose of the watering method of watering thoroughly after drying is that the water flowing out after watering thoroughly will bring fresh air around the pot mouth into the soil, so you won't feel chest tightness and can run up five floors in one breath.
In summary, specific soil mixing is based on the personal maintenance experience that has been accumulated and is different from others. The surrounding things that need to be combined with soil mixing are relatively trivial, such as personal habits, humidity, light intensity, temperature, bacteria, pests, fertilizer, water, and so on. Therefore, as the title says, "Soil mixing is not just about soil mixing." Flower friends should not pay too much attention to the proportion of soil mixing and ignore other things that need attention. A suitable soil mix can naturally achieve twice the result with half the effort, but even if the current soil mix is not satisfactory, we can still make up for it through other means.
The above introduces the small experience of using soil for twelve rolls (soil mixing is not just about soil mixing) of green plants and flowers, hoping to bring help to your life!
