Sedum Sowing
This article provides an introduction to Sedum for netizens, discussing Sedum sowing. Let's learn about it together.
Many friends say that Sedum sowing is difficult and does not germinate, so I feel that the germination rate should be the key to Sedum sowing, as the difficulty of caring for seedlings later is relatively small. Therefore, this article is prepared to share with everyone the key to improving the success rate of Sedum sowing: seed germination issues.
The main issues with seed germination are temperature, humidity, soil mixture, and seed purchase, with seed purchase being the most critical.
(I) Temperature, Humidity, Soil Mixture
1. Temperature
The suitable temperature for Sedum germination is between 20~29 degrees. I have experimented with different temperatures, and this autumn sowing, I chose 25~29 degrees, and there was no pressure for germination, with seeds starting to germinate in 3 or 4 days (see the picture below for the first round of autumn sowing). The temperature for the second round of autumn sowing was between 20~25 degrees, and the germination was also good (see the picture below for the second round of autumn sowing).
2. Humidity
This year, I also conducted experiments on the humidity preferred by Sedum seedlings. In spring sowing, I kept the seedlings completely open after germination, and in autumn sowing, I kept them completely closed after germination. The conclusion is that both methods work, with the closed method giving me a feeling that the seedlings grow faster, but this cannot rule out the influence of cooler weather. I will conduct further experiments next year to verify this.
3. Soil Mixture
After experiencing the situation of seedlings not growing properly due to poor soil mixture in spring sowing, I personally feel that the soil mixture for Sedum sowing is very important. Peat + Perlite (small particles) + Vermiculite is my current first choice, and the key is that there should be no large-particle Perlite, and even less, otherwise the roots of the seedlings will not be able to penetrate deeply, leading to stunted growth.
(II) Seed Purchase
I have three ways to purchase seeds: one is from a certain (Taobao), one is from forums, and one is direct KK purchase. My personal experience in buying seeds:
1) Buying seeds directly from KK is relatively secure, but KK has international shipping fees, may send fewer seeds, and has various risks, with relatively high costs and is also quite troublesome.
2) Buying seeds from forums is a more economical and convenient method and is relatively reliable. However, there is also a risk of poor germination.
3) Buying seeds from a certain (Taobao) has a higher risk, not to mention the possibility of receiving fake seeds, but there are also many problems with seeds not germinating, as sellers on Taobao may be more complex. ( Exceptions can be made for certain Taobao sellers with good reputations.)
