Should Sedum Plants Be Watered?

This article provides a core introduction to the topic of Sedum plants, discussing whether they need watering and offering helpful information that is sure to assist you. Let's learn together!

Many beginners ask this question, and JS will tell you that they don't need water, or just a light spray on the surface every week or two. That's a myth, wake up.

My personal preference is:

  One, Observation

New plants, no matter where they come from, will go through an adaptation process when they are in your hands. The light doesn't need to be too strong, and the water doesn't need to be too much, but ventilation must be maintained. I choose to change the soil and pot. Using my own soil is more reassuring (obsessive-compulsive).

  Two, Liberal Watering

After adapting, I choose an outdoor environment and give them plenty of water. By utilizing temperature, soil moisture, and good lighting, I encourage the roots to keep growing. Whether they are spindly or not is irrelevant. Sedum grows relatively fast among succulents (personally), even if they are spindly this year, controlled watering next year will bring them back. What I want is their full-speed growth.

  Three, Moderate Pinching and Pruning

Some people use pinching and pruning (colloquially known as "cutting the head") for propagation, while others can't bear to make the cut. Without pruning, many varieties will naturally branch out over time. I prefer the multi-head look; my pruning is not for propagation but to achieve the desired plant shape. I see this pruning as part of natural growth combined with artificial cultivation.

Four, Start Controlling Water When They Reach the Desired Shape

Yes, after at least two years of training, they have basically adapted to the current living environment, their shapes have gradually become fuller, and their roots more developed. Control the watering. Moderately slow down the growth rate.

In the end, I'm a fan of "liberal watering." In winter, try to water during sunny afternoons, and in summer, after the sun sets. That's all I know.

The above information provides a comprehensive introduction to whether Sedum plants need watering and how much to water them, hoping to bring some knowledge about green plants to plant enthusiasts.
