Fleshy Bao Chui Yu Plant Introduction

Argyroderma fissum, belonging to the Aizoaceae family and Silver Leaf genus, has opposite leaves that are elliptical with pointed tips. The leaves look as if they have been cut in half from the center, dividing into two lobes down to the base. The leaves are 2-4 cm tall and joined at the base. Young plants are solitary, while older ones grow densely. The leaf color ranges from light green to gray-green. The flowers emerge from the gap between two leaves, are red, and about 3 cm in diameter, usually with only one flower per plant. They bloom in the afternoon from autumn to early winter, closing at night, and this day-night cycle continues for about 7 days. They are difficult to open if it's cloudy or rainy, or if the growing area lacks sufficient light. The plants are cross-pollinated and easily form clusters. Each year, the plant sheds 2-3 heads. If a large cluster is grown, the number of shed heads in the following year may decrease to 1, at which point the plant can be divided. This allows for the formation of smaller clusters, which will then start to regrow and normalize. The plants dormant in summer and grow in other seasons. The shedding period is similar to that of living stones, but it is longer. During the shedding period, expose to more sunlight and reduce watering. By the end of May, the shedding is usually complete. If watered during this period, the shedding can extend into summer. The shedding process of Bao Chui Yu involves the outer old skin drying up, providing nutrients to the new plant, while the new leaves grow simultaneously.
