Native to the Cape Province of South Africa, a typical winter-type species, the plant has gray-green to gray-white leaves with many transparent dots on the leaf surface, and distinct ridges on the back of the leaves, with rounded corners on the ridges. Young plants are round and flat, while mature plants are oblong, appearing flattened under full sunlight and relatively easy to distinguish. They bloom golden yellow flowers in autumn.
