Chinese Torreya is an evergreen tree, reaching up to 25 meters in height. The bark is grayish-brown, branches are spreading, and young branches are hairless. Leaves are arranged in pseudo-dichotomous rows, linear-lanceolate; flowers are unisexual, usually dioecious; seeds are drupe-like, oblong or obovate-oblong. The blooming period is April. Seed maturity is in October of the following year. It thrives in cool, foggy, and humid environments, and grows best in deep, loose, fertile, and well-drained acidic or slightly acidic soil. The tree has an orderly crown with dense leaves that form a lush shade. Large trees are suitable for solitary planting as shade trees or as background trees with flowering shrubs like pomegranate and Begonia, creating a beautiful color scheme. They can be planted in clusters at the edge of lawns, at the entrance of gates, or around buildings, as they have strong resistance to pollution.
