How to plant chili seeds
This article introduces the knowledge of chili, a kind of melon, fruit and vegetable, and tells you how to plant chili seeds. Let's learn about it together.
Chili is a very common ingredient. Some friends who like gardening want to plant it themselves. Chili seeds are easy to obtain, but they don't know how to plant them. In fact, planting chili is very simple. This article discusses from two perspectives, both of which are suitable for home planting.
1. Lazy way to plant chili seeds without germination
Some friends like to germinate chili seeds before planting. According to the author's practice and other friends' cases, chili seeds can be planted directly without germination. Bury the seeds completely, water thoroughly, usually flood irrigation with little water to keep the soil moist, and wait for them to germinate.
2. Germination method
Seed germination can shorten the germination time of seeds and promote the seedling emergence neatly and quickly. Seed soaking is often combined with seed disinfection.
Common soaking method: Fill a clean small basin or large bowl with 50-55℃ warm water, the amount of water is 5 times the volume of the seeds. Soak the seeds in warm water and stir constantly until the water temperature drops to 30℃, then stop stirring and soak for 8-12 hours to allow the seeds to absorb enough water. Then drain the water, dry the seeds, wrap them in gauze, and then wrap them in a damp burlap or towel, and place them in a basin for germination. This method is called warm water seed soaking, which can kill chili blight and sclerotinia disease.
The second method is to soak the seeds in clear water for 5-6 hours, then soak them in a 1% copper sulfate solution for 5 minutes or in a 150 times formalin (40% formaldehyde) solution for 15 minutes, then remove and wash with clear water for germination. This method can prevent chili (T-J) disease and blight. The third method is to soak the seeds in clear water for 4 hours, then remove and soak them in a 10% trisodium phosphate solution for 20-30 minutes, or in a 2% sodium hydroxide solution for 15 minutes, wash with clear water after germination, which can inactivate the virus activity on the seeds.
The germination temperature of chili is 30℃. During the germination process, the seed bag should be frequently turned over, and washed with warm water every day to keep the temperature even. After 4-5 days, when 60%-70% of the seeds have germinated, they can be planted. The control of germination temperature can be done using a constant temperature box, or by placing the seed bag next to a stove or on a heating channel in a greenhouse, but be careful not to dry the seeds and keep the temperature and humidity even. If there is a special reason to delay the planting time after the seeds have all germinated, the temperature can be lowered to between 5-10℃, maintaining a cool environment around the seeds.
