Cotyledon octopus, belonging to the Crassulaceae family and Cotyledon genus, is native to the Cape Province of South Africa. The leaves of the octopus have degenerated into strip-like shapes, possibly related to the environmental conditions of its native habitat. The plant is an upright, succulent shrub and not very tall. The leaves are opposite, long and strip-like, with slight wrinkles at the tips, and a layer of blue-white powder on the leaf surface. Under strong light, the edges of the leaf tips will turn red. It blooms in spring and summer with an umbellate paniculate inflorescence, which is tall, with tube-like pendant flowers that are orange-yellow. The flower buds look like small peppers.
