Flower Fertilizer - Cake Fertilizer
Let me tell you about some common knowledge of flower cultivation, specifically flower fertilizer - cake fertilizer. I will introduce it in detail for you below.
Cake fertilizer is the residue left after oil seeds are pressed for oil, and this residue can be directly used as fertilizer. There are many types of cake fertilizer, including soybean cake, rapeseed cake, hempseed cake, cottonseed cake, peanut cake, tungseed cake, and teaseed cake. The nutrient content of cake fertilizer varies depending on the raw material and the method of oil extraction, resulting in different nutrient contents. Generally, it contains 10-13% moisture and 75-86% organic matter, making it an organic fertilizer with a relatively high nitrogen content.
How to Apply Cake Fertilizer
1) Cake fertilizer can be used as a base fertilizer and top dressing. It must be crushed before application. If used as a base fertilizer, it should be applied to the soil 7-10 days before sowing. In dry land, it can be applied in strips or holes and mixed with the soil after application, making sure not to get close to the seeds to avoid affecting seed germination.
2) If used as top dressing, it must go through fermentation and decomposition; otherwise, if applied to the soil, it will continue to ferment and generate high heat, easily burning the crop roots. In paddy fields, it should be applied evenly after排水 and mixed with the soil during the first plowing. After 2-3 days, shallow water should be灌溉. In dry land, it is suitable to apply in holes or strips.
3) The application amount of cake fertilizer should be determined based on the soil fertility and crop variety. For low-fertility soil and fertilizer-tolerant varieties, more should be applied; conversely, the amount should be reduced. Generally speaking, for medium-fertility soil, about 100 kilograms per mu (1/6 acre) for crops like cucumbers, tomatoes, and sweet peppers. Since cake fertilizer is a slow-release fertilizer, it is important to supplement it with a moderate amount of fast-release nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium fertilizers.
4) The application period of cake fertilizer, as a base fertilizer for melons and eggplants, should be applied 7-10 days before planting. As top dressing, it can generally be applied 5-10 days after fruiting, either in furrows or holes between rows, and covered with soil after application. For sugarcane, which has a longer growth period, some should be used as base fertilizer, and combined with the first tillage for top dressing to promote tillering, and the second tillage for top dressing to promote stem growth.
5) Soybean cake, peanut cake, and sesame cake contain a higher amount of protein and some fat, which have high nutritional value and are considered concentrated feed for livestock. They should be used to feed pigs first, and then the pig manure can be used to fertilize the fields, which has a higher economic benefit than direct application of cake fertilizer.
