When to Plant Narcissus
Today, the editor will introduce you to some knowledge about the bulbous flower Narcissus, when to plant Narcissus, and share the detailed content next.
Narcissus, lilies, hyacinths, and scarlet beans are common imported bulbous plants. Let's talk about when to plant Narcissus. Generally speaking, the best time to plant Narcissus is in autumn. When buying Narcissus bulbs, the delivery time agreed by the merchants is usually around mid-November because that's when the Narcissus bulbs arrive. Therefore, it is recommended that flower enthusiasts must clarify the delivery time, for example, it's better not to buy if they are shipped in the summer, as they are likely to be leftover bulbs.
However, there is another situation where merchants continue to sell the Narcissus that was not sold out throughout the year until January-February of the following year, which is also acceptable since the temperature is not very high at that time. Nevertheless, the best time to buy is still in autumn.
Narcissus prefers a cool climate and is planted in autumn and winter, with a blooming season from February to April. Narcissus grows slower than the common Chinese Narcissus. In the regions of Jiangsu, Zhejiang, and Shanghai, you can plant them directly in November (these regions can also cultivate them outdoors) as long as the temperature is above -5°C. If in areas like Hainan where the winter temperature is higher, you need to cold store them at 5°C for a month before planting.
Narcissus Planting Steps (taking pot cultivation as an example):
1. Choose a pot of an appropriate size, with a height of 12 centimeters or more;
2. If the pot is relatively deep, first place a layer of ceramsite at the bottom of the pot, then cover it with a layer of nutrient soil, sprinkle slow-release fertilizer, and cover the fertilizer with nutrient soil;
3. Place the Narcissus bulb on top (the top of the bulb should be about 1 cm lower than the rim of the pot), then fill the pot with nutrient soil (the top of the Narcissus bulb can be left exposed or covered with 1 cm of soil);
4. After planting, water thoroughly, and place it in a well-lit area for maintenance (Narcissus can be directly exposed to the sun after planting), and water again when the soil is slightly dry. After the leaves sprout, you can water with a water-soluble fertilizer (using a 10-30-20 flowering fertilizer), once every 1-2 weeks.
ps: During the growth stage of Narcissus, the soil should not be too dry frequently, otherwise, it will affect root growth and even cause the flower bud to wither.
Narcissus Post-Blooming Management:
Narcissus is a perennial bulbous flower that can rebloom every year if well cared for. After the Narcissus finishes blooming in spring, continue to water and fertilize to nurture the bulbs (mainly phosphorus and potassium fertilizers). When the leaves naturally turn yellow in spring and summer, stop watering and fertilizing, and let the bulbs remain in the potting soil to dormant in a dark corner. Do not water in the summer. Then, take them out in November and plant them again.
