Five Points of Attention for Hydroponic Narcissus

Summary: This article discusses the cultivation of hydroponic narcissus, including five points of attention, and will introduce them to everyone next.

There are still one or two months before the Spring Festival, and if you can have a pot of blooming flowers during the festival, it will bring more joy to your home. Narcissus is the best choice for this period, and preparations for planting narcissus should be made from now on.

It is known that there are several varieties of narcissus in our country, including the graceful Zhangzhou narcissus, the noble and elegant Chongming narcissus, and the pure and simple Putuo Mountain Guanyin narcissus, known as the "white-cloth fairy"... No matter which type of narcissus, they generally store nutrients in spring, dormant in summer, regrow in autumn, and bloom in the depths of winter or early spring. So, how can one raise narcissus well at home?

First, select a good bulb. From the outside, choose a strong and plump, flat bulb, the more small scales around the main bulb, the more flower buds the main bulb has. The outer shell of the bulb should have bright colors, with the outer layer membrane being dark brown, the longitudinal lines on the scale should be wide, the bulb should be solid and have some weight, and it should feel solid when lightly pinched with your fingers, with a small and deep indentation at the bottom, indicating that the bulb has stored more water.

Second, master the blooming time. From planting to blooming, narcissus takes about 30 to 35 days in the south and 35 to 40 days in the north, earlier or later mainly affected by temperature. If you want the narcissus to bloom exactly during the Spring Festival, you should plant it 30 to 40 days before the festival.

Third, plant the bulbs properly. First, remove the dried scales from the bulb, then make a vertical incision on the top of the bulb with a small knife, deep enough not to touch the flower buds, which allows the bulb scales to loosen and makes it easier for the flower stems to emerge. Then soak in clean water for 1 to 2 days to wash away the sticky liquid from the wound, place it in a flower pot, secure it with small pebbles, stabilize the bulb, and prevent it from tilting. Then add water to submerge 1/3 of the bulb.

Fourth, use good water. It's best to use clean spring water, well water, rainwater, or river water for planting narcissus. Change the water every 1 to 2 days, making sure not to hurt the roots. Since the narcissus bulb has accumulated a large amount of nutrients, there is no need to fertilize during the hydroponic period.

Fifth, control the temperature properly. Narcissus thrives at temperatures between 10°C and 18°C, with a relative humidity of 85% to 95% being ideal, and it can tolerate 0°C低温. If the climate is warm and the lighting time is long, narcissus may show signs of blooming early, at which time it should be shaded and the temperature lowered. Usually, move the pot to a shaded and well-ventilated place, control the water temperature, which can delay the blooming time. If there is a cold wave with low temperatures, you can place the pot in a sunny outdoor area during the day and move it indoors at night to reduce the impact of low temperatures. If the buds are not yet formed by the eve of the Spring Festival, measures such as heating or increasing light should be taken. It's best to change the water to warm water around 20°C twice a day and place the pot under an incandescent light bulb at night to extend the lighting time, until 3 to 5 days before the Spring Festival, when the buds are plump and ready to burst, allowing the narcissus to bloom on time for the festival.
