How to grow narcissus flowers
Today, I will introduce how to grow narcissus flowers and share some small experiences about the cultivation methods and skills. Here is a detailed introduction.
Soil: Use sandy soil with good water retention to grow narcissus flowers. Watering: Water daily at the beginning, and water every 2-3 days before the flowering period. Lighting: Place the newly planted narcissus in a shady place and move it to a sunny place after 5 days. Temperature: 12-20°C is suitable.
I. Soil
Sandy cultivation method: Since narcissus flowers prefer a warm and humid environment, loose and fertile sandy soil with good water retention is generally chosen for cultivation. Fill a pot with clean fine sand to 3 cm from the rim, peel off the outer skin of the bulb, and bury it about 1 cm deep in the sand, then cover the top of the fine sand with a few small stones.
Hydroponic method: Pour water that has been placed for several days into a shallow pot, ensuring it covers the clean bulb by about 1 cm, and then place it in a shady area.
II. Watering
Sandy cultivation method: When using the sandy stone method, water thoroughly the first time and water daily, as lack of timely watering can cause water deficiency and slow root growth.
Hydroponic method: Change the water for hydroponically grown narcissus once a day, otherwise the plant may rot. Daily water changes keep the regrown roots clean and white. When changing water, it is recommended to place the tap water in the sun for 2-3 days in advance to remove excess chlorine and other impurities. Before the flowering period, the water change interval can be adjusted to every 2-3 days.
III. Lighting
After planting narcissus flowers, first move them to a shady place and then to a sunny area after 5 days. It is a sun-loving plant, and it requires about 6-7 hours of sunlight per day; insufficient lighting may result in fewer flowers.
IV. Temperature
The temperature for growing narcissus flowers should not be too high or too low, with a general range of 12-20°C. Excessive temperature can cause leaf elongation and dull flower color.
V. Precautions
1. Fertilization: Fertilize 5-7 days after planting, as this is when the rootstock is just mature, and fertilization will not damage the roots. Do not change the water for 5-7 days after fertilizing, otherwise the soil fertility will be lost.
2. Flowering period: Narcissus flowers can be planted starting from autumn and winter, and they can bloom by early spring. Generally, narcissus bulbs can bloom as expected after about 40 days, and the flowering period can last almost a month.
