Introduction to Autumn Crocus/Colchicum Plants

The Autumn Crocus (Colchicum autumnale L.) is a perennial herbaceous bulbous plant belonging to the Lily family and the genus Colchicum. It blooms from August to October. The flower buds are spindle-shaped, resembling funnels when open, with a light pink (or purplish red) color, graceful and elegant, and loved by many. The Autumn Crocus is native to Europe and the Mediterranean coast, and China began to import seeds and bulbs from abroad in the 1970s. It is commonly used in rock gardens or flower beds in landscaping. The bulbs contain colchicine, which can be used for medicinal purposes, especially suitable for polyploid breeding. There are about 60 species in the same genus, most of which only bloom in autumn without leaves, with flowers in pink or deep red, directly emerging from the underground stem with 1-4 flowers, earning the reputation of "underground flowers."
