Does the African Jasmine bloom?
This introduces the experience of cultivating African Jasmine, a common knowledge of flower cultivation. Does African Jasmine bloom? The following is an introduction in detail.
African Jasmine is an ornamental foliage plant and is not of the same family as the famous Jasmine. It is native to Southeast Asia and regions such as Guangxi, Hainan, and Yunnan in southern China. It prefers a warm and humid climate, is not cold-resistant, enjoys sunlight but also tolerance to shade. The blooming period of African Jasmine is from May to June, with terminal flowers and white or yellowish-white corollas.
The lush growth of branches and leaves of African Jasmine but no blooming is usually related to the improper maintenance, with the main reasons being:
1. Lack of phosphorus and potassium fertilizers: African Jasmine needs sufficient phosphorus and potassium fertilizers for bud formation, while people usually tend to apply nitrogen fertilizers. Therefore, during the growing season of Jasmine, especially during the budding period, less nitrogen fertilizer and more phosphorus and potassium fertilizers should be applied. Besides using decayed bone meal and poultry manure as base fertilizers, the liquid produced by soaking decayed bones and poultry manure or fast-acting phosphorus and potassium fertilizers can also be used as top dressing.
2. Insufficient lighting: African Jasmine enjoys bright light. Due to some balconies not being exposed to sunlight all day, the plants often have long periods of shade, leading to large and sparse leaves, and few or no flowers. Therefore, the pot should be moved to a place with sufficient sunlight for maintenance.
As long as sufficient base fertilizer is applied to the African Jasmine, ensuring that the plant's nutrient status is at its peak, it will bloom in May. From March, foliar spray of 0.1% monopotassium phosphate every two weeks can promote bud formation, along with sunlight exposure and adequate water supply, it will definitely bloom.
