Jasmine in which season does it bloom
The editor answers the question of when jasmine blooms and discusses the topic of caring for and managing jasmine plants. Next, detailed content will be shared.
Speaking of the most vibrant flowers in summer, many flower enthusiasts will immediately think of jasmine. It is not as showy as the Chinese rose, nor as variable as the bougainvillea. It simply blooms layer after layer of small white flowers, quietly emitting a subtle fragrance to accompany us throughout the summer. So, how should we care for jasmine in May? Let's learn together with Nian Si.
Before April, due to the extreme instability of temperatures, we have repeatedly emphasized not to trim and fertilize too early. It was only after the Qingming festival that we started to repot and trim heavily. As we enter May, temperatures gradually stabilize and rise, and jasmine enters its vigorous growth period. It not only rapidly sprouts branches and leaves but also blooms increasingly. If the care is proper, it will enter a concentrated blooming period from June to September, with flowers like a潮水 (tidal wave), wave after wave, blooming until the beginning of November. Below, let's continue learning about the specific care precautions for jasmine in May.
1. Bravely remove the "mother's flowers"
Many jasmine plants have started blooming sporadically before May, even as early as March or April. Whenever Nian Si sees someone posting these "early flowers," they always advise them to remove them. Because only when the temperature is right will the flowers of jasmine be numerous, large, and fragrant. The earliest batch of flowers is called "mother's flowers," which are thin, sparse, and have a faint scent. Not only do they have no ornamental value, but they also consume too much nutrients, affecting the growth of the plant and the quantity and quality of the later blooms.
So, we must bravely remove these "mother's flowers" early, along with the tender branches before the flower buds, leaving only one bud node. This will encourage jasmine to produce more flowering branches. After the first sporadic flowers are cut, starting from mid-to-late May, jasmine will bloom more and more densely. When the first wave of "flower tides" arrives, we can comfortably enjoy the flowers and their fragrance.

2. Plenty of water, fertilizer, and sunlight
After repotting and heavy trimming during the Qingming festival, once the seedlings have recovered, the plants can be placed in direct sunlight. Under the sun's rays, jasmine continuously sprouts and grows leaves, becoming increasingly lush. At this time, we should rotate the pot periodically to ensure more even sunlight exposure, making the branches and leaves full and symmetrical, and the flower buds evenly distributed.
Although jasmine likes "plenty of water, fertilizer, and sunlight," watering and fertilizing should be limited, especially when the plants have just entered the growth period. We should water thoroughly when the surface of the potting soil turns white and fertilize only when the first batch of flower buds are as large as soybeans, around mid-to-late May. The fertilizing frequency should be once every 7-10 days, using organic fertilizer or potassium dihydrogen phosphate. However, no matter what type of fertilizer is used, it should not be applied too early, too frequently, or too concentratedly, and fertilizing should stop after flowering.
3. Timely pruning and fertilizing
Jasmine usually has 3-4 waves of "flower tides" in a year. The first wave is from mid-to-late May to early June, accounting for about 15% of the total flowers. The second wave is from June to July, and the third from August to September, each accounting for about 30% of the flower quantity. If the plant grows well, there can be a final wave of flowers lasting until the end of October or even early November, from the Dragon Boat Festival to the Mid-Autumn Festival.
