When Does Jasmine Bloom
Jasmine flowering and introduction to the flowering period of jasmine for flower cultivation enthusiasts, followed by a comprehensive introduction.
Starting in May, proper care for jasmine can lead to lush growth and blooming until the end of October
In April, I wrote about pruning, shaping, bud removal, and the first batch of "mother's flowers" for jasmine after the spring bloom. Now, in May, jasmine is about to enter its official flowering period, which usually lasts from June to September. With proper care, it can even bloom until the end of October. So, how should we care for jasmine during this period?
1. Mother's Flowers
Many friends' jasmine plants have not undergone major pruning in the spring, resulting in new branches directly emerging in April, with a few scattered flowers. I've mentioned before that these flowers, known as "mother's flowers," have a small quantity and faint fragrance. They should be removed during the bud formation stage to avoid wasting nutrients and affecting the quantity and quality of flowers during the formal flowering period.
2. Sunlight
After pruning, jasmine should be exposed to sunlight throughout the day. New buds will grow and develop under continuous photosynthesis, forming new branches and flower buds. It's important to occasionally rotate the pot to ensure even sunlight exposure, resulting in a symmetrical plant shape and uniform flower buds.
3. Watering and Fertilizing
Jasmine enjoys water and fertilizer but not in excess. Keep the potting mix slightly moist, as the saying goes, "not too wet to form mud, not too dry to turn white." Water thoroughly when the surface of the potting mix looks slightly white. If the soil is too wet for an extended period, the roots may rot due to poor ventilation.
Jasmine flowering time
Under normal care, jasmine usually starts to form flower buds in mid-May. When the buds grow to the size of soybeans, it's time to fertilize. Fertilize when the surface of the potting mix is slightly white, using a dilute, light fermented liquid fertilizer around the edge of the pot in the late afternoon on sunny days. Do not water thoroughly and then water again with clear water in the morning the next day to allow the fertilizer to penetrate deep into the soil for the roots to absorb. Start with fertilizing once a week. From Dragon Boat Festival to Mid-Autumn Festival, when the growth is most vigorous and flowers bloom continuously, fertilize twice a week but make sure to use "light fertilizer" and not too much, or it may burn the roots. Stop fertilizing after the flowering period.
4. Post-Flowering Pruning
Usually from late May to early June, the first batch of jasmine flowers will bloom, followed by the second batch in August and the third in September. In addition to timely sunlight and fertilizer, pruning is a very important part of jasmine care. Many enthusiasts often make the mistake of not pruning enough, which wastes nutrients and makes the plant look unattractive.
When pruning, remove the wilted flowers promptly and then cut off 2-3 buds from the top of the flower branches to promote branching. Moreover,徒长 branches usually do not produce flower buds and waste nutrients, so they should be cut off, leaving only 1-2 buds.剪下来的徒长枝是扦插的好材料;剪除其他病弱枝和枯枝细枝。 After flowering, you can prune according to your preferences to shape it into a low shrub or a tall flowering tree, without strict rules on how many nodes to cut or leave.
