How to cultivate orchids
Main text core guide: Let's learn about the green plant flower planting content of how to cultivate orchids and the management methods of orchid maintenance.
Orchids, as one of the top ten famous flowers in China, have been very popular from ancient times to the present, especially among some scholars and literati, who like to keep one or two pots of orchids at home. The cultivation history of orchids is very long, and they are plants that require "rich cultivation." What is rich cultivation? It means you have to take good care of them and nurture them carefully, otherwise problems will arise.
Orchids are very delicate plants. When they get upset, they won't bloom, which can be quite frustrating. The main reason orchids get upset is due to some minor details you may not have noticed during their maintenance.
1. First of all, the environment for cultivating orchids should be ventilated and bright, with good ventilation. If possible, keep them outdoors instead of in a stuffy room. Orchids grown outdoors will be much healthier and less prone to diseases.
2. Secondly, soil is crucial. Orchids basically have fleshy roots and require very good ventilation. The soil should be loose and not compacted, and should not accumulate water, otherwise the roots won't be able to breathe properly, leading to many problems.
In China's regions, loess and compacted alkaline soils are not suitable for planting. Ordinary vegetable garden soil can be improved by adding river sand, tree bark, pine needles, peanut shells, melon seed shells, and eggshells to increase its looseness.
How to cultivate orchids
But generally speaking, vegetable garden soil is not a good soil for orchids. For orchids, using a mixture of coarse and fine growing media is the best choice.
The fine growing media we usually collect include melon seed shells, nut shells, and peanut shells; coal slag and red brick particles are considered coarse growing media.
When preparing the soil, use a part of both coarse and fine growing media, and add some humus soil to increase nutrients, which is perfect for orchids! There is a lot of decaying leaf humus soil, pine needle humus soil, and bamboo humus soil in the mountains, all of which can be used to cultivate orchids.
3. Next, let's talk about watering. Watering has always been a benchmark for orchid growth. Most orchids die because of overwatering by us, which is definitely not a good thing.
Although orchids enjoy a moist environment for growth, they have a certain level of drought resistance. Excessive watering can cause the roots to be unable to drain water in time or the orchids to absorb the water, leading to root rot and yellow leaves.
When we water orchids, we should water according to the ambient temperature at the time. After watering, maintain appropriate lighting and ventilation to speed up water absorption and evaporation. Spraying water on the leaves of orchids regularly can also provide them with reasonable补充.
