After the beginning of autumn, various orchids will also bloom, with elegant temperament and faint fragrance... Today, I will introduce several orchids that bloom in autumn and winter, let's see if there is one you like.
Black orchid
Blooming period: October to the following March
The black orchid is the easiest to identify among orchids, with its deep color and dark green, upright leaves. The flower spikes are numerous and long, and the flowers are deep red with a strong fragrance.
When the temperature drops to below 26 degrees Celsius in autumn, black orchids can start to bud flowers. The flowers bloom most vigorously between 20 degrees. We can water a little "Flower More 2" or spray potassium dihydrogen phosphate in advance, either one will do. Keep the planting material moist and appropriately increase sunlight (avoiding direct exposure to sunlight).
Cold orchid
Blooming period: August to December
The cold orchid has the most elegant form, with long, graceful leaves. Although it does not bloom many flowers, they are fresh and elegant with a long-lasting fragrance. Cold orchids are divided into large-leafed and small-leafed types, with the large-leafed type blooming for 2-4 weeks and the small-leafed type blooming for about 2-3 months.
After the beginning of autumn, you can appropriately increase some sunlight. Spray potassium dihydrogen phosphate on the leaves every 10-15 days, which can not only promote flowering but also strengthen the leaves, making the plant more resistant to cold in winter. Do not move the plant around after the flower buds have emerged. Keeping the day and night temperature difference within 10-15 degrees is best for more punctual blooming and a stronger fragrance.
Do winter orchids bloom?
Jian orchid
Blooming period: Blooms all seasons, mostly in spring and autumn
Jian orchid is also called the "four-season orchid" because its blooming period is not fixed and it can bloom in any season, making it a rather diligent blooming orchid. Beginners can start with Jian orchid.
Jian orchid is relatively easy to care for and considered a beginner's level orchid. Many orchid enthusiasts use it as a practice plant. Remember to use a well-ventilated pot and a planting material mix of pine bark + coconut bran + pine needles + volcanic stones + pearl rock/vermiculite, etc. The better the ventilation, the healthier the orchid. In autumn, you can increase scattered light, water on time when the weather is dry, and fertilize by spraying potassium dihydrogen phosphate to promote flowering.
Cymbidium
Blooming period: October to the following March
The blooming period of Cymbidium is not fixed. The natural blooming period is in autumn, but some also bloom in winter and spring. The blooming period is relatively long, and the flowers have a sweet milky fragrance.
