臭牡丹 is a small shrub. Young branches are slightly pubescent, with a solid white pith inside the branches. Leaves are broadly ovate or ovate, with a strong odor, 10-20 cm long, 5-15 cm wide, and have serrated edges. The cyme is dense, terminal, with flowers having light red, red, or purple corollas and a strong odor. The drupe is obovate or ovate, 0.8-1.2 cm in diameter, turning blue-purple when mature. It prefers a sunny and humid environment, is adaptable, cold and drought-resistant, and can also tolerate shade, growing well in fertile, loose, decomposed leaf soil.
