Introduction to Peony

The peony is native to the mountainous areas of Western China, around Qinling and Daba Mountains. It is a perennial deciduous shrub that grows slowly with a small plant form. The peony is a unique and valuable woody flower in China, known as the "Queen of Flowers" and "National Color and Fragrance," long regarded as a symbol of wealth, luck, prosperity, and thriving. The peonies from Luoyang and Heze are most famous. The root bark of peony is used in medicine, called "Danpi," and can be used as a potted plant for ornamental purposes. The flowers come in various colors, including pink, red, white, etc., with pink being the most prominent and white being known for its beauty as "Jingyu."
