How to propagate Jasmine through cutting

A brief knowledge sharing article, introducing you to the propagation of Jasmine through cutting and the steps involved in Jasmine cutting cultivation. Corrections are welcome if there are any mistakes!

Jasmine belongs to a fragrant flower variety, and its aroma is very strong when it blooms. Any Jasmine can bloom continuously throughout the four seasons. Moreover, Jasmine is relatively inexpensive, so many people enjoy growing it. Can Jasmine be propagated through cuttings? In fact, propagating Jasmine through cuttings is very easy. It's because it's easy to propagate that the price is low. If you want to learn how to propagate through cuttings, Xiaoqi will tell you about two methods that are more suitable for autumn operation. Just follow the steps, and it will root very quickly.

1. Water cutting

Jasmine can be propagated using hydroponics. We cut the branches of Jasmine, discarding the very soft and tender ones, and keep only the green, harder branches. The length of the branches should be around 10 cm, retaining the top two leaves and cutting off all the bottom leaves. The bottom of the branch can be cut diagonally to increase the water absorption area, preventing the plant from wilting and promoting faster root growth. Then find a comb or a piece of foam board, make some holes in the foam board similar to the thickness of the branches, and insert the branches directly into the foam board, leaving the bottom sticking out two to three centimeters. Cut as many branches as needed and insert them into the foam board, with a spacing of about two to three centimeters between branches.

After inserting them into the foam board, find a large basin or bucket, add water, and drop some rooting hormone into the water to help with rapid root growth. Then place the foam board in the bucket and put the bucket in a location with half-day sunlight. Change the water when it gets dirty, and within two weeks, roots should grow. If the temperature is right, there is enough sunlight, and the branches are thick, you will see white roots starting to grow at the bottom within a bit over a week.

Remember that water cutting is very easy to survive, but the roots are relatively weak after water cutting. When transplanting, be sure to choose the right time. Don't transplant immediately after the roots start to grow a little, as this can easily lead to seedling death or transplant failure. Wait until at least three to five roots grow and are over three centimeters long and look sturdy before transplanting. The survival rate will then be very high.

2. Soil cutting

Actually, Jasmine is a very easy plant to propagate through cuttings. We can simply use soil cutting, which does not require transplanting after it takes root. You can grow it in the original pot, and it will quickly fill with roots and bloom. The selection of branches should also be the green, harder ones, about 10 cm long, retaining one or two top leaves and removing all the bottom leaves. Cut the bottom of the branch diagonally, then find a pot with a diameter of less than 10 cm, avoiding deep pots, and use well-aerated, sterile nutrient soil. Insert the branches into the soil by two to three centimeters, water them thoroughly, and add some rooting hormone and multi菌灵 to prevent root rot.

After potting one by one, place them in a location with sunlight for at least two to three hours or under a tree for diffused light, ensuring good ventilation. Water them when the soil surface dries. Using this method, roots usually grow within one to two weeks. Once the roots grow, they will directly contact the nutrient soil, which contains nutrients, and quickly grow more roots and new buds. If the new buds are not pinched, they can bloom directly during the cutting process.

If you use soil cutting, it is recommended to water with fertilizer twice when you see new buds growing fast. Use a balanced multi-element fertilizer to help it grow roots quickly. If the pot is too small, replace it with a larger pot for normal growth and sunlight, and it will bloom fully.

Jasmine is very easy to grow, and many people are growing it. However, it is prone to black stems and no root growth during propagation. Try these two methods, and with the right temperature in autumn, you can successfully propagate. Generally, it will be fully grown in about a month. To bloom, just ensure adequate sunlight and supplement with phosphorus and potassium fertilizers, and it will bloom fully.

The above is a detailed introduction to how to propagate Jasmine through cutting and the steps involved. Did you get it?
