Key Points of Cold Orchid Cultivation Techniques

Do you know these? Topics related to home cultivation of cold orchids, key points of cold orchid cultivation techniques, the following editor will give you a detailed explanation

There is a saying about the cultivation of cold orchids that it is "nine deaths and one life". In fact, as long as you master its essentials, the propagation rate is not lower than that of spring and Huilan. In my more than three years of mountain cultivation, the seedling emergence rate is about 50%. Now, I would like to share my点滴 experiences during the cultivation process with orchid friends.

I. Planting

Cold orchids mostly grow under dense broad-leaved forests on steep slopes, with less sunlight, shallow roots, and a thin layer of humus soil covering the roots, which has good permeability. Therefore, when planting, choose high-footed purple sand pots, with one-third of the bottom of the pot padded with coarse brick particles and foam plastic blocks, the middle part mixed with mushrooms mud, coarse sawdust, weathered stones,植金石, pond foundation stones, and soybean-sized brick particles to one-third of the pot, and the upper part mixed with rice-sized weathered stones and brick particles with a small amount of humus soil. The planting requirements are loose, breathable, water-permeable, and have strong heat-insulating properties. It is especially important to note that simply using hard substrates, sawdust, humus soil, etc., to cultivate will not result in high survival rates, seedling emergence rates, or flowering rates.

II. Cultivation

Since the growth environment of cold orchids is different from that of spring and Huilan, the cultivation methods should be slightly different. First, the shading degree and temperature are similar to those of black orchids. Especially in the high-temperature season with strong sunlight, more attention should be paid to shading and moisturizing. In addition, foliar water should be sprayed every morning or evening on sunny days, with a shading degree of about 80%. In this way, the leaves are glossy and have fewer diseases; during the high-temperature season, I place the cold orchids on the lower shelf of the orchid shelf, with spring and Huilan orchids above to block the light, and the effect is quite good. Second, prevent wind and frost. In autumn and winter, avoid strong winds and cover and keep warm on frosty days. Third, fertilization. Cold orchids planted with the aforementioned substrates generally require less fertilization, or even no fertilization, but foliar applications of high-nitrogen fertilizers can be made from April to June, such as Flower Treasure No. 4, B1 germination stimulant, etc. From August to October, foliar applications of phosphorus and potassium fertilizers can be made, such as flowering fertilizers, Flower Treasure No. 3, monopotassium phosphate, etc.

III. Maintenance

Whether cold orchids can bloom, bloom beautifully, and emit a fragrant aroma depends on maintenance. For dark-colored flowers, the light should be slightly stronger, while for plain-hearted flowers, the light should be slightly shady. If attention is not paid to plant protection when the flower spike begins to grow until before flowering, the flower buds are prone to stiffness and rot. Moreover, the flower buds of cold orchids are easily attached by mites, which are similar in color to the flower buds and often not easily detected. Once detected, timely control is necessary, otherwise the flowers will not bloom. Using pesticides such as Flower Health No. 1 and cypermethrin spray can effectively prevent and control. Cold orchids often bloom in late autumn and early winter when the weather is getting colder, and it is often felt that the fragrance is faint and the aroma is insufficient. To make the fragrance of cold orchids drift, the flowers should be exposed to the sun more during the flowering period. Even at night, there will be a faint fragrance. Cold orchids have beautiful and fragrant flowers, bright colors, tall stems, upright and arching leaves, sparse and dense, graceful and elegant, soft with a touch of rigidity, leaves and flowers together are elegant. Among Chinese orchids, it has unique charm and will be valued.

When it comes to orchids in Yunnan, people may pay more attention to莲瓣兰 (Lianbanlan), but in fact, Yunnan has complex terrain and diverse climates. In addition to the excellent-quality Lianbanlan growing in Western Yunnan, there are many other excellent orchid varieties growing in many areas of Yunnan. The summer cold orchid in southern Yunnan is a very good orchid variety. The summer cold orchid is a variant of the cold orchid, growing in the mountains of southern Yunnan. It is a terrestrial orchid with well-developed, thick, and long roots, and inconspicuous pseudobulbs. Each plant has 4-6 leaves, semi-erect leaves, thick veins, 35-80 cm long leaves, 1-2 cm wide leaves, dark green leaves with a luster, leaves that flutter and elegant in posture.
