The temperature and humidity for growing orchids indoors
I. Temperature
Under normal conditions, the best growth temperature for orchids is between 20-35 degrees Celsius. Both high and low temperatures are detrimental to the growth of the plant. Orchids can grow rapidly when the temperature is above 20 degrees, with the most vigorous metabolism occurring between 28-32 degrees. Therefore, when caring for orchids indoors, it is essential to ensure the growth temperature is between 20-35 degrees, with a day-night temperature difference of about 10 degrees.
The temperature for caring for orchids should not be less than 5 degrees, or the plant may freeze and even die. It should not exceed 35 degrees, or the plant's growth will slow down. When the temperature is too high, you can reduce the temperature by sprinkling water around the plant and increasing ventilation. When the temperature is too low, the plant should be moved to a warm place indoors.
II. Humidity
Orchids grow well in an environment with a relative humidity of 40-70%. In such a humidity environment, the plant appears glossy and bright. Both excessive dryness and excessive humidity can cause adverse effects on the plant. Installing a humidity meter next to the orchid can visually monitor the humidity of its growing environment.
When the humidity meter often indicates below 40% in the morning, you can add cold water to the saucer of the pot until the humidity meter indicates 75%, then remove the water. In the afternoon, when the humidity meter indicates around 30%, no action is needed, as it will rise again by night. When the humidity is too high, you can open the window to increase ventilation, which can relatively reduce the humidity.
