Cape Sundew sowing method "Sowing Techniques for Cape Sundew"

Cape Sundew Sowing Method

Introduction: Knowledge about carnivorous plants such as the Cape Sundew, its sowing method. The following is an introduction by our station's editor.

The Cape Sundew, also known as the Cape Drosera, is a carnivorous plant that grows in South Africa. The Cape Sundew is a fully red individual, and the entire plant will turn red under sufficient light. Many plant enthusiasts have tried to sow Cape Sundews themselves. Here is some experience shared by enthusiasts.

Step 1: Prepare sphagnum moss and distilled water, soak the moss through:

1. Moss: Personally, I find Chilean moss more useful. Although the moss for orchids bought at the flower market is cheaper, it doesn't feel very good. But since the Chilean moss is used up, I'll use this for demonstration, and I will update the results promptly.

2. Water: I want to emphasize again that the water must be soft water, including: distilled water, RO water (reverse osmosis water), air conditioner condensate, rainwater, and southern river water. Southern tap water is not guaranteed to work. Cool boiled water is not suitable. Also, don't assume that expensive bottled water is suitable. Mineral water, mineral-enhanced water should be avoided at all costs. If you buy bottled water from the supermarket, make sure it is labeled as distilled water and contains no added substances (including various beneficial minerals for humans, which are toxic to carnivorous plants). I personally have a simplified RO water filter for carnivorous plants, which only goes through one RO membrane column. It's not suitable for drinking, too acidic, but it works for carnivorous plants and fish.

Step 2: Prepare a small cup that is not permeable to help retain moisture and stuff the moss inside.

Step 3: Continue to add distilled water until the water level is flush with the upper edge of the moss.

Step 4: Sow the seeds evenly on the surface.

Step 5: Cover with plastic wrap or not, it's fine. The temperature here is okay, it won't suffocate. Place it in a semi-sunny or bright location, preferably with 1-2 hours of sunlight, not too much, but it's best not to have none.
