Prefers warm and humid conditions, shade-tolerant. Flowering period is March, fruiting period is July. It has research value for the study of the flora of China and the classification system of the Musaceae family. The rhizome is used as a folk medicine for clearing heat. It is listed as a national third-class protected plant.
