Michelia chapensis is an evergreen tree, 15-30 meters tall, with bark ranging from gray to dark brown; young branches are hairless or have gray pubescence at the nodes. The leaves are thin and leathery, obovate, narrowly obovate, or oblong-obovate; the flower tepals are light yellow and fragrant; the follicles are oblong or ovate, with red seeds that are ovoid or oblong-ovate. The flowering period is from March to April, and the fruiting period is from August to September. It prefers warm and humid climates, loves sunlight, but during the seedling stage, it enjoys partial shade. It thrives in deep, loose, fertile, well-drained acidic to slightly alkaline soil. Michelia chapensis has a straight trunk, dense shade, and intoxicatingly fragrant flowers, which can be planted alone or in groups in gardens, or used as street trees.
