Jianlan is a perennial herbaceous plant. It propagates through seeds or division. The leaves are wide and thick, standing upright like swords. The petals are broader, resembling bamboo leaves in shape; the flowers are numerous with long spikes, emitting a strong fragrance. It prefers a warm and humid environment with partial shade, has poor cold resistance, and the winter temperature should not be lower than 3°C. It is sensitive to direct strong sunlight and does not tolerate waterlogging and drought. It thrives in loose, fertile soil with good drainage. Jianlan refers to the orchids with the main flower shape that blooms in midsummer and early autumn in China. The plant is named after its main producing area, Fujian. Jianlan has a long history of cultivation, with numerous varieties, and is very common in the southern part of China. It is an excellent choice for display on balconies, living rooms, plant stands, and small courtyard steps, exuding a fresh and elegant charm.
