Aphids
Eco-friendly non-pharmaceutical pest control methods for red spider mites and aphids. Red spider mites specifically damage the leaves and flowers of plants, with bodies as tiny as a pinhead, deep red or purple in color. They appear as red dots visible only under a magnifying glass, with their transparent orange spherical eggs visible. Their nymphs often gather on the backs of leaves and flower buds of some flowers, absorbing sap with their piercing-sucking mouthparts. Initially, the leaves lose their green color, the leaf edges roll upwards, leading towithering and falling off, causing early bud shrinkage, and severe cases result in plant death.
Red spider mites have 7-8 generations a year and start causing harm from March to April, with June to July being the most severe period. Regular observation and checks should be conducted on the plants after the end of April. In high temperatures, high humidity, and poor ventilation, red spider mites reproduce rapidly, which is one of the important causes of plant death.
(1) Soak citrus peel in water (about 10 times the amount of peel) for 24 hours, filter the liquid, and spray it on the plants. This can also prevent aphids, and if watered, it can prevent nematodes in the soil.
(2) Light a mosquito coil, place it in the pot of the affected plant, and tightly seal the pot with a plastic bag. After about an hour of smoke fumigation, both eggs and adult insects can be killed. Aphids occur all year round, with the fastest reproduction at around 29°C. There are many types of aphids, usually differing in green, yellow, black, and brown colors,危害ing flowers such as roses, pomegranates, chrysanthemums, and gardenias. They often gather on the buds, tender leaves, or branches of the plants, continuously absorbing sap. Affected plants' branches and leaves turn yellow and deform, buds rot, blooming time is shortened, the flowers fade, and severe cases lead to withered plant death. (1) Boil 50 grams of fresh or dried chili peppers in 30-50 grams of water for about half an hour, and spray the filtrate on the affected plants for a special effect.
(3) Use a "wind oil essence" solution diluted 600-800 times with water, spray it with a sprayer to coat the insects with the solution. The effect of killing aphids and scale insects is over 95%, without causing harm to the plants.
(4) Mix laundry detergent, urea, and water in a ratio of 1:4:100, stir into a mixture, and use it to spray the plants. This can achieve the dual effect of pest control and fertilization.
