Beijing XiaJu cutting propagation
Today, I will elaborate on the content of flower propagation regarding Beijing XiaJu for netizens. Let's continue reading about the cutting propagation of Beijing XiaJu!
Beijing XiaJu is a new group of densely planted chrysanthemum varieties, with low-growing plants, strong resistance, early and long blooming periods, dense blooming, and natural shaping. It is bred through distant hybridization with 11 species of Changbai Mountain wild chrysanthemums from the cold mountainous areas of Changbai Mountain Range and chrysanthemum varieties such as Siji Fen and Siji Huang from Bolli County, Heilongjiang Province.
Beijing XiaJu is increasingly loved by flower enthusiasts for its beautiful flower shapes and early blooming periods. Now, let me introduce its propagation method.
Beijing XiaJu mostly uses tender branch cuttings for propagation. After flowering in autumn, the old stems can be cut and densely planted in sunny plots facing south before the soil freezes, and covered with plastic film and straw curtains.
1. Winter propagation: Before Bailu (White Dew), plant the plants in pots (with a soil and peat soil ratio of 4:1). When the basal buds emerge, they can be cut for propagation. It is best to maintain a temperature of over 18°C indoors; if the temperature is too low, the spikes and roots will grow slowly. If excessive watering occurs, the cuttings are prone to rot. The cuttings should be about 5 cm long, with the base cut flat, and the lower leaves removed before inserting them into a clean, pathogen-free vermiculite matrix with a spacing of 15 cm between plants. The depth of insertion should be 1/3 to 2/5 of the total length of the cutting. If the cutting matrix is reused, it should be disinfected or exposed to sunlight to kill germs. After cutting, water the seedlings thoroughly once, and then spray water when dry to keep the cuttings fresh and upright. Under suitable temperatures (20°C to 25°C), they will root in about two weeks. When the roots are about 3 cm long, they can be transplanted (the soil should not be too fertile). After Qingming (Clear and Bright), the surviving seedlings can be transplanted into the open field.
2. Spring propagation: It must be done in early spring, using sandy soil or vermiculite, and the soil should be clean and not previously planted with chrysanthemums. After cutting, control the temperature and humidity, and transplant immediately after rooting. After cutting, pay attention to spraying water and ventilating to cool down. If the temperature is below 18°C, extend the interval between sprays. In May and June, when the temperature rises, a shade shed must be set up to reduce heat.
The above experience and knowledge about the cutting propagation of Beijing XiaJu, I hope this article can bring you some help!
