What Flowers and Seed Plants Are Suitable for Spring Planting

A collection of life's little knowledge, introducing the types of flowers and seed plants suitable for spring planting and the small experiences of plant cultivation suitable for spring sowing. Let's explore together.

The whole year's plan depends on spring. Flower enthusiasts naturally won't miss this good time for planting flowers and grass. Besides buying ready-made seedlings, flower seedlings can be propagated by sowing seeds at home. Especially if you have a large garden or a terrace, sowing seeds in spring can result in a sea of flowers. The following four types of flowers are very suitable for sowing with seeds, with low costs, easy flowering, long blooming periods, and colorful flowers, making them varieties that cannot be missed when creating a "sea of flowers."

Chrysanthemum

Chrysanthemum is an annual herbaceous plant that can be grown in pots or in the ground. Sow seeds in March or April every spring, and they can start flowering in May or June, continuing until the frost in autumn. Chrysanthemum has a relatively long blooming period for individual flowers, and as long as the plant is healthy, it will produce seeds after flowering. Chrysanthemum flowers come in colors such as white, pink, purple, blue, and rose, and usually, chrysanthemums grown from seeds are colorful. When growing chrysanthemums in pots, it's enough to keep two or three seedlings per pot. Too many seedlings result in weak plants with few branches and poor flowering ability. Fewer seedlings mean stronger plants with more branches, a higher number of flowers, and especially large flowers, with a long blooming period. When the minimum temperature in spring is above 5 degrees, consider sowing chrysanthemum seeds.

Cosmos

Cosmos has a strong adaptability and can be found nationwide. Moreover, most of the so-called seas of flowers are made from cosmos. Although cosmos can also be grown in pots, the effect is not as good as growing it in the ground. Therefore, flower enthusiasts with a garden or terrace at home should consider sowing cosmos. Cosmos can start flowering 70 to 90 days after sowing, with the blooming period lasting until the frost ends. It doesn't get too cold in my area during winter, and cosmos can still bloom beautifully. Cosmos is tenacious and can bloom vibrantly even in poor soil. The flowers come in a variety of colors, and although some people think it's common, it's undeniable that its beauty and grandeur when blooming in groups.

Chilternсе

The biggest advantage of Chilternсе is that the blooming period of individual flowers is very long, and the flowers will change color, starting as pink and then turning to pink-white. Some places call Chilternсе步步高 (step by step), because during its blooming process, the central flower spike keeps growing taller, with petals growing on top, layer upon layer, changing from single-petaled to multi-petaled. Chilternсе comes in regular and dwarf types, with the regular type suitable for planting in gardens and the dwarf type for pots, blooming for a long time. Usually, the Chilternсе seen in flower markets is dwarfed. The germination rate of Chilternсе seeds is lower than cosmos and chrysanthemum, so don't plant them too deep to avoid low germination rates.

Sunflower

Most of the time, sunflowers are grown in pots, but in fact, they can also be grown in the ground. If you have some empty land, planting a field of sunflowers will be especially brilliant when they bloom in summer. If you plant sunflowers that easily produce seeds, you only need to pull out the weeds occasionally, and they can bloom every year. Sunflowers are sturdy and easy to care for, with a variety of flower colors, similar to wild grass. One advantage of seed-producing sunflowers is their strong self-sowing ability; wherever the seeds fall, they will root and sprout. It takes about 90 days for sunflowers to bloom from sowing. If the temperature in your area rises quickly in spring and you like sunflowers, then start sowing.

The above four types of flowers are the ones I plant every year. By the end of this month, when the temperature is more stable, I will start planting this year's batch as well. If you find this useful, give it a thumbs up and follow me for more flower cultivation knowledge.
